Default Theory behind adjusting shocks on my Aero 750.

I recently bought an '05 Aero 750 and am wondering what is the optimal goal for adjusting the rear shocks.

If I firm them up then I gain handling but hurt rideability on rough roads but if I soften them too much I hurt handling but enjoy a nice soft ride.

I am a pretty relaxed rider, I am not interested in speed on my bike, but I don't want sloppy handling, or a back breaking ride either.

I weigh about 160lbs. What method should I use to adjust these shocks? How do I know where the optimum setting is for me, and how I ride?

adjust typically for sag using the preload and dampening well I don't have anything good for that other then personal preference... Mine is stiff front and rear and well... eh it's worth it
