Default Hydrolock in yesterday's chicago storm... Help please!

I was going 90 west and hit a big puddle of a ramp. I wasn't going that fast probably like 20-30 and it started to stall.. i tried to start it again and it did and stopped. It then smoked some. I towed it back home.

I took out the spark plugs and cranked it , no water came out. i changed the oil.. I saw some water in the oil, it wasn't a lot. The problem is it isn't turning. I'm trying to start it but no turn. I have power in the car, so i don't think its the battery.

Is this because the starter soleniod is bad? or maybe i need to let it dry?? i dont' konw what to do.. i need to get my car fixed fast.. HELP PLEASE!

Isnt the solenoid in the starter? If so you may have ruined that in the water. Edit: Im almost positive thats what it is, and letting it dry wouldnt help.

That's not hydrolock, it's a wet electrical connection. The clicking is indicative of a bad battery whereas the stalling could be a water-induced short somewhere.

The dizzy will not keep it from turning over. It's either starter or battery.

Try hitting thestarter with a hammer to free it up.

You said you cranked it over and no water came out of the plug holes. Then it wouldn't crank, IMO it's the starter.

wrong, the dizzy could be a reaason why it didnt start. even if nothing in the dizzy may have gotten wet, the coil could of went bad and that could be a reason. my luck the rainiest day of the yaer, biggest puddles, i was 20 mins from home and i hit a big puddle, 5 mins later car bogs down and dies, thought my motor was done, but it happend to be only the ignition coil, so if there aint no spark look at that

ok to eliminate the starter being the issue, just push start the car. then you'll know if its your starter or just a wet and grounded electrical connection.

i dont think what he said was wrong per say, i mean the distributor cannot tell the computer to not turn the starter. the coil is not related to starter simple as that. i think people dont have good reading comprehension skills on here. now maybe his coil went out too, but he wouldn't be able to find out until he tries to push start the car... assuming its a manual.

It is a manual. How do you push start your car? Do you just put it in gear and push it and then try to turn the car on? Sorry if its a stupid question, just never tried it before.

Thanks again guys..

turn the key to the on poss. have a couple of friends get behind the car and push it once it is rolling push your clutch in stick it in first gear and feather the clutch out untill the motor catches and starts. If you have never done this before it might take a few attemps to get it just right so the car will start. If you have a nice little hill near where your car is it can make it a lot easyer

It's best to do this in second gear BTW.

Depends on how husky your friends are. If you can't get it going fast enough to reach the idle rpm in 2nd gear, it can stall instead of start.

When I end up push starting I never have friends around to help, and I can't always get it going that fast by myself. But it doesn't take much for a 1.5L/1.6L - running it down an inclined driveway is enough for a 1st gear start.

Just be sure to put your key in the "ON" position before pushing. Then all you have to do is jump in, press down the clutch, put it in gear, and release the clutch. The clutch release is the tricky part, you don't want to feather it too much, because it'll just burn the clutch (and slow you down) without turning over the engine. Dumping the clutch works, but it's hard on the engine & drivetrain. You need to find a happy medium.

Have you:

1. Gotten the car running at all, either via jump start, push start, etc. since the original issue?

2. Rotated the crank via the crank pulley bolt manually?

One of the issues here is that you originally mentioned you found water in the oil and "i tried to start it again and it did and stopped. It then smoked some."

It's not the dizzy, a dizzy won't start a car from turning over, it will make it stall..but not not turn over.

To push start (b/c some peoples ideas on here just suck)...turn the key to "on" push it, once it's rolling nicely, put it into SECOND then POP the clutch (don't feather anything) - SLAM IT popped and when u see the RPM's start to move up give it some gas then push it back in (do this fast), car should be running fine.

If it stalled though, it could be another problem as well.

My friends integra just did the same. He put a new motor in it, and it does the same. I told him he prob. fried the wiring harness. When he took his other motor apart, it had a broken rod, piston hit the valves, and the motor is pretty much wasted but I think we can bore it back out it it didn't scar the block to far. When you find out the actually problem, post it. Need info. to fix his car. If we get it going, I'll post it. Good Luck and get us posted!!!

When I mentioned rotating the crank - it wasn't to start the car. It was to verify if the crank was even able to be rotated at all. There still is the possibility the engine was hydrolocked - which could mean a bent rod and possible binding of the entire rotating assembly. Until you rule this out - don't attempt to push start the car.

Compression test is probably in order.
