Fuel pump problem

Ok my car died on me yesterday while driving(89 civic si, stock), It was acting like it was running out of gas. Got it towed home. I thought it might be the main relay because it has been acting up( not starting when warm, etc.) So i replaced the relay with a new one from honda. I noticed that the fuel pump was not priming when I turned the key to the second position so i thought the fuel pump was bad. Today I tried to see if the fuel pump was getting voltage like it says in the haynes manual, I tested it at the connector under the rear seat with a voltmeter and it wasnt getting any power to the fuel pump when the key was turned on.
I checked all the fuses including the one that powers the main relay and they all were good. Does anyone have any idea where to procede from here? The crappy haynes manual says to check the main relay but It is brand new so i doubt that is the problem.

Sorry, I dont have any suggestions. My only thought wouldve been that main relay if your not getting the voltage to the pump. Only other advice would be to make sure there isnt any brakes in the wire. Maybe do a continuity check. Good Luck
remove ur back seat to expose the fuel pump wires. get a VOM and test the plug wires that go to the fuel pump, to do this u might need a friend to hit the ignition swich to make the fuel pump prime whle u read if the wires are getting the correct voltage at the requested time. if u get correct voltage check the other wire for ground connectivity. if both these wires are good, then ur fuel pump is F,ing up.
umm. the fuel pump does not always get volatage. only the first like 2 sec when ignition is on and when the pressure is down. so hopefully you are testing for voltage using two people or within 2 sec of ignition turn on.
did u check any fuses. check the ground for the main relay. and if you have to test the fuel pump with ext source of voltage.

hey i had this same problem like 2 days ago. trying to get my car started for the first time. it ended up being the alternator soilnoid valve fuse up under dash. i belive it was #14. just recheck the fuse's might have not noticed it weas slightly cracked like min. let me know how it turns out.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I got one of my friends to recheck to see if there was voltage at the fuel pump wires under the back seat and I guess Im a dumbass with a multimeter cause he got it to show 12volts when the key was turned 2 the second position. I ordered a fuel pump and will be installing it friday. Ill let everyone know if that is indeed the problem.

How can you tell that your pump doesn't prime? By long cranks to start up? My car does the same thing as the author... it will act like its running out of gas only once in a while and I have no idea what it is... I'm thinking its the pump maybe going bad? Any suggestions?

you should hear your pump prime for about 2 seconds when you turn your key to the second position. Maybe try replacing your fuel filter/basic tunup.
Its raining here so i havent got a chance to do my fuel pump, ill let everyone know when i get it done and if it solves the problem.

I replaced the fuel pump today and it fixed the problem. I guess my fuel pump just died on me. Funny thing is that it was replaced about 50-60k miles ago. Whatever, im just glad its running again. Driving around the r powered hatch gets old.
