Default new clutch install now wont disengage

Okay yes im new to site, so hello to all. I have been getting info off of here for little while now but cannot find any help for what has happened to me.

I installed a stage 3 clutch and lightweight flywheel in my 1990 civic hatch. everything was done just like i have before but this time for some reason the clutch will not disengage. It is not the cable, because at the transmission the arm that attaches to the throwout bearing will move freely with no resistance. It is like it wont even touch the pressure plate. Everything was installed correctly and torqued to specs. When i tightened the pressure plate to the flywheel the fingers on the PP did start to "flatten" is this normal? because now that they are flat the release bearing will no longer touch them.

any and all help is appreciated

ive seen people one tighten the pressure plate too much,2 not tighten the clutch cable enough 3 install the throwout bearing incorrecttly the clutch system is only made up of a couple of things im sure your problem is tightening the pressure plate unevenly or too much

I did put the pressure plate on there very slowly by working around the bolts a few turns at a time. and i torqued them to 19ft/lbs. I am thinking it is with the throwout bearing also. but it goes on fine and moves freely, just doesn't seem to move far enough. it was simple to put in i put the bearing on then put the 2 clips in their correct place. the bearing went on all the way down then the clips snapped under the fork fine. I did not take the fork out of the transmission i just used needle nose to pull the springs off and used same to put on new one.

thx for all help

And what happenes when you push the clutch pedal down? Or does it just flop down to the floor?

Also you can only post 5 times a day so when you run out, just go back and keep editing you last post to answer the questions.

I have checked EVERYTHING.. all is on right and straight. there is no pedal pressure at all, nor is there pressure at the fork arm AT the transmission. I am thinking that i have a wrong throwout bearing. almost as if it is just too short. nothing seems bent or broken. I cannot find my throwout bearing that came out of the vehicle to compare them. it has amazingly just walked away. would any other throwout bearing fit my car, such as one for a clutch or throwout bearing for a newer civic? any ideas?

thanks for help so far. i am outside with the transmission out and just trying to find the stock throwout bearing. I probally threw it in trash, or across the yard when i was mad. I dont remember.haha

thanks

okay i found the old bearing. it is just like the new one.. so what in the hell am i doing wrong??? all worked fine before i took it out. I've changed clutch out before without any problems. now this one i've been working on for 3 days, with no luck whatsoever.

thanks

I know what your problem is
Sometime when you had the transmission off the car the clutch fork outer arm got pressed into full clutch in mode. This caused the clutch fork return spring to pry itself off its mounts and now it will move freely as it is no longer retaining the pressure plate back. You need to remove the tranny, put the clutch fork spring back into its original position and then put it on the car without touching the fork arm.

I never took the spring off the fork. I just removed the pressure bearing with needle nose pliers. The arm of the fork will return under its own pressure. but its like the T.O. bearing wont throw far enough off the shaft. I am going to remove the tranny AGAIN tomorrow afternoon. im taking a break today cus its really made me mad and im bout to just burn the car. Do you know of where i can find a pic of how the bearing and fork springs are susposed to sit? my haynes manual shows a different transmission, so it is useless.
thanks for all help

I had the same problem with my car.
I had two problems though:
1. I used the wrong grease (don't do this, its a bad idea)
What sucks even more is my friend warned me and I said, "ah it will be alright"
2. As stated above the spring can disloge and bind, and mine did.

Since you did not re-grease your yours my guess is that when you assembled it the spring popped loose. Your only solution is to take the tranny back off. You won't have to take it all the way out, just far enough to reach up in and instal the spring correctly.

Good luck. (I know first hand how much it sucks to get your car running and then have to tear it back down.)

YOUR CLUTCH MAY BE TOO BIG IN O.D. FOR YOUR PRESSURE PLATE.

sounds like lots of the same opinions.
anyways, Ive been in this same position at my shop before and the customer supplied their own clutch and pressure plate for the job, and i could not get the clutch to disengage. i went backwards through all the steps and put it back together (lots of work on a 4x4 tacoma) and it still didnt work. turns out it was the wrong clutch and pressure plate, even though it fit perfectly in the bell housing.
thats what i would research if you have already checked everything else, could be the wrong kit...
