Stolen S2 in Jersey
My S2 was stolen about 2 weeks ago. Normal stuff taken, seats, ****... cut roof, broken ignition. Insurance adjuster has it at 10,500. Question is, there is a metal box under the dash on the drivers side kick panel that's pride open, and there is no computer/controller stuff on the estimate. Anyone know what might've been in there? What the value might be? Thanks in advance for all replies. It's been a sh1tty couple days.
dude best of luck
i forget what that box is for, but i know what your talking about. i think its for some electrical things. maybe they tried to hott wire the car.

the car was stolen and it's recovered now? or your car was broken into and things stolen from it?
The engine control unit (ECU) is located behind the driver side kick panel and is enclosed in a metal box with three wire harnesses attached to it. It's bolted to the car via 10mm bolts. If that is damaged/missing you'll need a new ECU which will require new keys/locks/ignition due to the imobilizer security feature that is standard for the s2000.

Sounds like the box that was stolen was your ECU. If it was, and you plan to fix the car, just replace the ECU with either a Japanese aftermarket ECU, or an AEM EMS.
If you do replace the ECU with a factory unit, you DON'T need to replace the keys and the ignition. The ECU can be transferred from '02-'03 models to '00-'01 models, and '00-'01 models to '04-'05 models. You will need a dealer to do some reprogramming though.
