Silly question: Are all clutch alignment tools created equal?
Some clutch kits come with a clutch alignment tool, and some do not...
Differences? Does it matter? I mean, I've even heard of people aligning the clutch with a broom handle or nothing at all.....
It shouldn't make a difference at all. Isn't it's purpose only to line it up so it's not a pain to put everything back on?
I'm sure you could just eye it too. But the little plastic alignment tool is good too. I keep one handy for my friends if they need it.

clutch alignment tool??
whats that?
whats that?
What do you use then steve? It's listed in the helms... looks like a plastic thingy that sticks in the flywheel center hole and lines up the clutch disc and pressure plate while you are installing them.....

You can align the clutch just by feel, but the tool makes it fairly idiot proof. You'd feel dumb if you humped the trany all the way back up just to have it not fit right.

last Exedy install came with a tool... but the end was bigger than the pilot bearing.
So some triming and a good eyeball (looking into the crank) resulted in a nice smooth imput shaft insertion...
On the Volvo... I just barely tighten the pressure plate (so the disc can barely slide) and toss the tranny in place. The disc will move to the correct location. Remove tranny and then tighten the pressure plate.

Ken: I use my EYE, given my genetic disposition for having my eyes nearly closed
at all times, I can still line it up in one shot.
