which motor to go with.
swaping a b17 or 1st gen b16 into the 88-91 civics... which would u rather go with and why? i think the b17 comes with the hydraulic trannys rite? fix me if im wrong.
I'm not sure if B17's had hydraulic or not, I think they were cable, but good luck finding one, they only came on the 92-93 Integra GSR's, so good luck on that, as for the B16's, they have similar performance, but I believe the B17 has more torgue because of the larger displacement
B16's and B17's both originally came with cable tranny's. They both make 160HP only that the B17 has 6 more ft/lbs of torque than the B16A.

the b17 only has a bit more aggressive cams.. if you take the cams off both the b16 and b17 they are IDENTICAL motors. Basically, all things being equal, if you have a b16 and a b17 and put CTR cams on both of them and use the same computers they *should* produce the same dyno results.
Therefore I would say get the cheaper b16 and spend the left over money on ecu tuning and CTR or ITR cams!
