Default Blown motor... don't let your wife borrow your caR

So I get my car back after the wife had been driving it for the last few weeks and it's making an odd noise. I check the oil and it has none. I've always stressed the importance of checking the oil to her and she doesn't get it. I know it burns a bit of oil from normal driving but didn't realize how many miles she put on it. It sounds like a spun bearing... whack whack whack near the bottom rear of the motor. It was due for an oil change anyway and then she drives the hell outta it. I replaced the missing oil and it didn't help whatsoever.

So now I'm thinking of a decent rebuild with lowered compression so I can put teh charger in around the 11lb range. Anyone wanna chime in with considerations on the rebuild. Obviously _______ (<----- insert hammer icon here) me for not daily checking the oil. I guess you learn the hard way.

I'm considering pulling the motor myself and attempting (with some professional assistance) the rebuild. I have some experience with motor building but by no means am I a professional. So wish my luck. Hopefully it'll be up for me by Expo 7.

Cliff notes...

Wife borrows car... I don't keep an eye on oil levels... spun bearing.

Oye sorry to hear that, best of luck on the rebuild! Maybe you should have the wife do some of the work, it'll help drive home how important it is to check the oil

Normally I would... but due to all the other issues in my life it really adds up to a "whatever". If you'd like the sad story (series of crappy events) then PM me.

I'll give you a taste of teh suck...

but there is more...

My plan to punish her includes (but not limited to):

-working on the car Friday nights or on any night she has something planned for me.
-making excuses not to do things due to my broken car.
-"surprisingly" spending more money than budgeted fixing anything and everything I can find.
-gettting oil on things in the house so she'll have to clean it for awhile
-buying every tool I can think of.
-more to come....

but really I'm impotent in regards to the situation.

It's your wife that blew up your car. Personally, I'd just let it go.

Besides, if you hold a grudge for that long you're being just as bad as a woman.

I agree... I was just doing the typical vindictive male response for comedy routine. I'm just gonna fix it and love my family as always.

BTW... every ITR owner acts like a women in regards to their caRs. -muahahahahhaha

Does suck... are there any estimates (idea) what it will cost to fix this problem. Also a short list of parts and anything I should be aware of. Obviously due to oil starvation is the worse. Should I assume all bearings to be changed and crank is either good or bad (most likely bad). Guess I'll tear it apart and report back. Is the best idea just to get the motor out or is it better to pull the pan and try to inspect the damage that way? LMK.

What's my car worth the way it sits. -Thinking of just dumping it cheap and getting a Honda Fit

New Honda OEM ITR Block.

They're not quite as expensive as you'd expect. That's what I would do. Unless you're trying to build stronger.

In that case, I'd pull the entire engine, tear everything down and inspect all parts for damage. If it's just the bottom end that is damaged, I'd do the following:

-OEM Bearings
-Eagle Crank Shaft
-Eagle H-Beam Forged Rods
-JE/Arias/CP (Your choice) Pistons (I'd go 11-11.5:1)
-Balanced (I doubt there will be any needed, Eagle rotating assemblies are pretty Damn well balanced as is)

And that would be a stout bottom end. If you're going with the boost, go which ever CR you desire. I'd personally go with 10.5:1, that way you keep close to the Type-R CR, with it's great torque, and responsiveness, added with nasty top end... That would be a really fun car.

Good luck with it man.

OK, it's not your wife's fault that your car sucks. Sucks ***, sucks oil, whatever...

Get a JDM H22A Type-S motor. It has a red top which makes it pretty. Your ITR IM/TB will fit, if you wanted to keep 'em. Toss a nice header on it and you're in business.

There's an H2B b-series tranny adapter for the H motor.

(chris, faster in the Prelude than in the ITR...)

So my car sucks... I thought quite a few of the ITRs suck oil. Not to mention the charger probably doesn't help.

I just traded my h22A jdm motor last month. Wish I new better. I bought a wrecked GSR teggie with a conversion so I could have parts to rebuild my other ITR shell. I was surprised to find the h22 sitting in the teg. That's the way it goes.

The motor I got rid of had all of that.

Yeah, OK, I coulda been more clear...

The prelude weighs about 250 less pounds and has a better suspension setup, and better brakes.

The R would win for 1 lap, then the intercooler gets hot and everything else gets hot. Prelude would kill it in a longer race. ITR is a low 13 second car, Prelude is probably a mid-13 second car.

Well, technically, the Prelude doesn't have a head at the moment.

If I had to pick a car to keep, I'd gladly drop my BB6 into the river.

Honestly, I'm a big supporter of the H-Series engines... People doubt them. But I would NEVER put one in an ITR. GSR, sure, Civic, sure, ITR... Hell no.

A very fun setup would be H23 Block, Type-S Pistons, H22 Head, Skunk2 Valvetrain with Stage II Cams, Blacktrax IM, RPM Services 72mm TB, Prospeed Header, H2B Conversion with ITR Transmission equiped with ATS 5.077 FD... That would be some kind of fast.
