my speedometer stopped working today.
it was jumping up and down for a while and now just stays at zero.
what could cause that?

 

Was it making any noises before it stopped? That can sometimes mean that it needed to be greesed. It could have snapped. The speedometer spins and if it there is no greese it will snap. Mine kinda jumped and it was squeeking.

 

where's the sensor located?

Sounds like your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) going bad.

i figured it out...the vss was loose...i just bolted it down and it worked fine.
thanks guys.

 

it stopped working again...now i got a check engine light and it idles a little rough

is a 91 accord dx btw
