SSR Type C (gunmetal)
Hi,
has anyone bought gunmetal Type Cs since Tanabe bought up SSR ?
It seems to me that they changed the color to a darker one, can anyone confirm that ?
Thats a picture from tirerack

and this one is from tanabe

Notice the color change and the missing polished lip ?
I´d really like to know how this wheel actually looks like, hope someone here can help me, thanks.

One of your pictures is an SSR Competition and the other one is an SSR Type C.
Although the metallurgy is similar, the wheels have always looked different.
I have a set of all white Type C's, 15x7 +38 and they've been great.

Oh, i tought the only difference between those wheels is the name which was changed for the US market.
So the Type C color really is gunmetal while the Competion is more like a dark silver ?
I´d love to get a set of Type Cs but only if they´r gunmetal and not "silver"

I have never liked the way they looked, and I'd have bought darker wheels if they were available at the time.
I should also be honest: My white Type C were takeoff wheels. They came off of a retired race car, and I only paid $400 for them.

The SSR wheels are awesome and a great solution for so many of us. However, the hybrid process produces wheels that are not as hard as the cold forged wheels produced by Desmond (and others) for companies like Spoon (and others).
You can bend an SSR hybrid process wheel in an activity that the Spoon wheels would have not even noticed. Changes to the USDM model line might have been promulgated to avoid any kind of bandwagoneering that would result in adverse publicity.
I know a couple of people who have bent SSR. One was a racer, and it was in a race and to be expected. Another was an HPDE driver who had some of the OG 15x7.5 USDM Competitions.
On the other hand, I also know people who have broken the indestructible [sic] Spoon wheels.
No wheel is totally resistant to what we can think of to do to them.

But would you recommend this wheel to a person who tracks his R on a regular basis ?
And someone please tell me whether the Type Cs color really is that dark gunmetal or not

It really depends on the diameter of wheel you're planning to use and the tyre size also, IMO. I haven't had any problems bending my 15x7.5's on my ITR, but I've bent a few 17x9's on my E36 with 255/40R17 tyres.
This all depends on how much of the track surface you intend to use, however. I like to maximize the width of the track.

A few? A few?
1 Peter 3:20
In it a few (that is, eight) souls were saved through water.
Very expensive hobby you have there.

I'm not familiar with that dictionary.
I use this one:

A couple of times I decided to get the most bang for my buck, and I used the ENTIRE track, including the wall.

SSR Comps did, and those were the only ones readily available to the US market, so sometimes they get confused w/ Type C's, excuse my error
