Got a free EJ1, was hurricane flooded.......chances of water getting in tranny? (already tore apart
Ok so I got a 95 EX coupe for free from some guy who just moved into a house, the previous owner of the house and car left it for him to tow away. it has a clean title and the body is flawless, one ding thats it. the electrical system works (for now), and since I have no current transportation I figure I can put a few hundred into it to get it running. the water got the the door moldings. I tore off the head and its fine turns over good no corrosion inside. the block wont turn but it could be the flywheel which is completely rusted out. the cyl walls are perfect however. It could need new bearing, if anything ill get a shortblock.
Now my question is, the tranny was submerged, would it get water inside? the block and tranny are still in the car so I havent been able to look into it yet. It does however, shift fine, if it was flooded and corroded inside would it still shift? TIA, ill prolly have the tranny out today anyways.

Most trannies have a little breather vent on top. I doubt the differential is water proof either. Depending on how deep it was submerged water probably got in.

yea, thats what my dad said. I have a feeling ill need a new block and tranny, atleast the head is in great shape. it needs a whole suspension overhaul we pulled it 50 feet before the wheels broke loose, the bearing are shot.
