Default My DA Fiberglass Comp-tech Style Air Intake - PICS - 56k NO

I wanted to do something a little different. And since I have been working in the engine bay alot latley this is what I came up with. All the tubing I cut up out of an old cold air intake, and I used a PR3 stock intake arm I had laying around. Should have completed, painted, installed pics of the box itself by monday.

I still have to get some of the thermal matting that summit sells to line the inside with. The only things I need to complete yet is the lid which is in the works, and the air inlet is going to be attached to a vent on the front bumper, I still need to construct a duct that is formed to the vent on the bumper and attach that tubing as well.

The air box and tubing is going to be painted the same color as the valve cover.

I didn't even have the box bolted in, I just wanted to snap some quick pics and threw it together, it looks like its seated a hair crooked, it will be installed straight. I am using the stock battery bracket and it needs raised a little.

Anyone know where I Can get some nice BLACK 2.75 intake couplers?

?

Thanks everyone, just got finished paint/clearing and installing the box. I need to come up with something to cover the area where the battery tray went becuase there was next to no paint on that area. A bay repaint just may be in the future. Also I need to spray the inside of the box black.

Can you tell I've been sanding alot of fiberglass lately? I need to push the car out for a bath. I can't wait til spring, I haven't drove her for 16-18 months!

I like it a lot. I'm really starting to like this fabrication forum. It is full of the best information, and ideas, with the least flaming, and BS.

Great job on the box. Your fiber-glassing looks pretty solid. Do you work with F-glass mucht? Perhaps in a body shop, or stereo shop?

I build alot of other stuff like custom fiberglass speaker boxes, pods, etc and do some custom body work on the side, pretty much just work out of my house on my own 5 cars and friends stuff. This is one of my first performance functional fiberglass projects. I am still learning metal working & welding so this was the best option for me.

Thanks alot for the compliments, I was hoping to have the lid done by today but got tied up most of the day doing family stuff and putting an alternator in my truck.

I have an extra headlight housing laying around, you think you could make a ram air scoop out of it for the track?

I'm sure you could come up with something to make this box work with a headlight duct. Although I don't think the OEM headlight would work unless you came up with an entire new lense cover for it because fiberglass wouldn't stick well with glass. The JDM plastic lense would prob work though.

Once I get my lid for the box done, I am going to be fabbing the intake air inlet pipe to work on one of the vents on the front bumper, I just need to make a duct that fits over the back side of the vent area.

looks sweet. i wonder if you could fit a dc2 drop in filter in there like comptech does? you would prolly have to stretch it a bit, but it would be quite a bit bigger of a filter. also what made you decide to run a stock intake arm? all metal arm would look sweet on there. also you what type of air bell do you have on there?

It would take quite a bit of work to make it a drop in filter design now, maybe if I build another one I can work that into my next design, maybe on my accord.

I may end up tring to replace the stock intake arm, I'll have to get a bend made or something, I couldn't get the bend that I needed to make with what I had, it works for now, it still looks good. No air bell, that box was constructed strictly of fiberglass and alum. tubing, and ALOT of .

Just got done working on the lid, hopefully completed by the end of the week .

Next brake line tuck..... Ain't that right postman

lid is completed and in primer, just need to get the chance to spray it. I got a new (92-93) bumper and lip (WW RS) this weekend so I got a little side tracked.
