It means that the throttle is controlled electronicly instead of by a cable. There's a potentiometer on the gas pedal that sends a signal to the ecu and the ecu translates it and activates the motor on the throttle body that opens the throttle plate up. The delay comes from that whole process not happening fast enough. When u punch it it takes a split second for the thottle plate to open and vise versa for letting off. On a mechanical throttle the throttle plate is connected to the pedal by a cable and the throttle plate moves at the exact time as the pedal.

Also companys are working on the DBW concept on the steering to. So it'll pretty much be like playing a video game where none of the controls directly connect the other components. Everything is controlled through computers and wires.

No prob.

Yeah it would be scarey to get a car like that and it malfunctions.

no throttle cables whatsoever, all controlled by the ECU

I have no tech to back it up, but I can promise you that it the delay was put in there on purpose. Drive by wire can be just as quick as a cable actuated system.

Oh i totally agree, but DBW will never open the throttle plate up as fast as cable, it's impossible. But on the other hand there's no point in having the throttle plate open up quickly without the fuel going in at the same time, what i mean is that on a cable tb the throttle plate may open up fast but the fuel isn't goin in the same until the computer realizes that u punched it and then injects more fuel. By using DBW the computer can open up the tb and inject more fuel at the same time. Which to me is better. Just that Honda has to work a few bugs out of theres.

Oh and i have an out of range Si which doesn't have as much rev hang as the older ones. And i don't mind the rev hang cause when ur racing it holds the revs for the next gear, so when u let the clutch out in the next gear there's power already there. I guess u coulda kinda say it's like launching in every gear cause the rpms are higher then what they should be in the next gear.

I don't think the delay is on purpose, I just don't think Honda put the extra effort into a DBW system that doesnt have a noticeable delay.

DBW and rev hang is the thing I hate most about the SI. I have a VIN 12xxx and I still notice it

I am pretty sure it's there for emissions and mileage purposes.
