How to maintain 100,000+ Honda Accord?
We have a Honda accord with milage around 101,000. We would like to know details of service and other maintenence we need to do regularly. The car is in a very good condition and at what milage we need to do major and minor services.
Thanks in advance,
J

If you have the manual (edmounds.com has it too) it should have some guidelines in it. Overall though by now you should have the timing belt/water pump changed by now.

Definetly follow the preventative maitinence procedures and the scheduled repair procedures.
Also for a long running accord change your oil OFTEN. If it says you can go 7,500 i still do mine every 3,000 with high quality oil, filter, and Lucas additive ( I would rather put good stuff in my car and know that it will never cause a problem than use cheap stuff and not know what its doing). And remember oil never goes bad... its the additives they add to it that go bad. Change your oil OFTEN. Honda's live "forever" with good oil and when they're taken care of.

Change the oil...
Well, seriously the only major thing I would be concerned about is the condition of the timing belt. Mine has 119,000 miles, has no mechanical problems, and see's the red part of the tach a couple times a day...

100,000.. is nothing
A friend of mines mom has a 90 accord with, 200k + Miles on it, And the only thing they replaced was the transmission
As for Maintenance on that mileage accord
IF you havnt Already replaced the Distributor then youll need to do that soon, because ive owned 3 accords and all of them have had a distributor fail around 100k-130k
Change all the fluids, Radiator, Transmission, Oil,
IIf the Transmission is manual it takes gear Oil so i would Put 2 Lucas transmisson Fixes in it then the rest Some High Quality Gear oil, i usually use Mobil 75w90
Same thing with an automatic, Just Instead of gear oil use transmission fluid with 2 lucas transmission fixes
Also if its stick, It May Be time To Replace The clutch
Timing Belt, Water Pump

What exactly is the distributor and what does it do? Expensive to change? I have changed the timing belt and water pump, along with alternator belt and crankshaft pully belt. I flushed the coolant also.

This pic is a couple of months old, up to 306,000+ now.
The big ones (killers) are timing belt every 60-90k depending on driving conditions and oil. I did oil every 3,000 miles for years but have backed off to 5k because I am logging about 500 miles a week. Everything else:
- tranny fluid
- plugs, cap, rotor
- coolant
is on about a 50k schedule unless it looks bad or car is acting cranky.
These are not factory recommendations but following them and keeping a sharp eye and ear on things has worked for me for 14 years. This car is the best money I ever spent.

The distributor sends electricity to the spark plugs. I'm not sure why but they have to be changed every so often. I changed mine about 10k miles ago...
But yea...basic stuff is just the timing belt, air filter, ignition stuff, radiator flush, tranny oil/fluid, etc. Just maintain it and it will run forever, I rag on my car almost every day and when I really beat it up it takes it like a champ and keeps pulling.
