The IPS man cometh...
actually it was the UPS man, several days late
but in all seriousness...thanks to Mike at IPS. All tickets I get for noise and speeding violations will be directed to his office
Thanks bro
I am poor and don't have a digicam, but the following came in the mail:
JDM 4-1
Carsound Cat
Type One B-pipe
Spoon N1 rear section
I will take pics of the stuff on the car in its full "race trim". I am going to a lapping day on friday so I will post as soon as I get back and tell you **** if Spoon really is overrated. I am also trying to hit the dyno and the dragstrip ASAP. The header will be ported pretty soon as well. Thanks again to IPS.

Haha well NOW I am scraping for cash...lol.
Chris etc - I actually rode in a car equipped with N1 rear section, modded stock B-pipe, and test pipe. I found the noise to be not nearly as bad as everyone says. Mine should be even more tolerable since I will have a cat and not a test pipe. the Type One B-pipe should add a little noise, as will cutting the anti-reversion chamber out of my header. But the car I rode in really wasn't that bad. I once drove my car with no exhaust while it was being repaired...now THAT was loud.

Chris aren't you already running an Apex N1? The Spoon is not much louder than that...but it's deeper.
Jason - I forgot you were coming to the FATT you pansy! you just made my day.
Rob - you own an R AND a Porsche. That's plenty to brag about.

OK,
I want PICS of the N-1's diameter as compared to the Type-1 pipes diameter.
I am Sooo ready to go for an exhaust and Am Soo Torn. full 60mm or just go for it with a 2.5" and get either the Type-1 Full catback or get an SMSP and build it, or order a Hytech and hope John provides it before my track event in the fall.
From what I remember, the Type-1 pipe is 2.5" according to Mike, Is this correct?
And I forgot if the Spoon N-1 which I KNOW is loud as Hell has a silencer available?
Keep me posted, I am SURE you will be pleased with the header and cat.
Unless you are pressed for time or just really want it all on, I'd/We'd love for you to install JUST the Header and Cat with the stock exhaust and THEN after a few runs, install the Pipe and Spoon N-1 and let us know if you feel anything different? I realize a dyno would be a little pricey and asking WAY too much but, what do you think about JUST doing the header and Cat first? Of course, ONLY cause I am ready for an exhaust myself. BUT, you could help alot of others as well.
Good luck with it all,
A.

Although I did get the Type One exhaust, I say shell out the extra $200 for the SMSP and gain the extra 5-7whp

. I have been in the same dilemma, and debated it for quite a while. From what i hear about the sound and the power for the money, I just decided to get the Type One.BY the way, I did e-mail David at SMSP about the Type One cat-back and it's ID's and what not. Here is what he said.
The Type One has a slight bottleneck at the B pipe flange of 57.5mm I believe, but the rest of the system is 63.5mm OD (2-1/2") and I suspect the ID is around 2-3/8". The 60mm OD JDM systems have an ID of about 2-1/4". There are NO systems spec'd as 2-1/2" ID. Unless you modded your JDM ITR collector it's ID is about 2-1/8" due to the anti reversion chamber in the collector.

The problem I have is that I am leaving soon for 3 weeks for another country. So I don't have time to do comparisons like that. I am trying to get this **** on before I hit the track on Friday. Else I would put it on in stages and dyno it and drive it back-to-back.
I forgot about the silencer. Mike has one for his N1, so he is making a copy of it at a local muffler shop and then sending it to me - which is a much more cost-effective route than buying an S2K silencer from Spoon for like $50.

For any noise concerns - here you go.
The N1 is loud under full throttle to be sure. And very loud under part throttle, like when slipping the clutch from a standing start at a stoplight, for example. But if you pass a cop and just push the clutch in, it's just like stock. And if you have it at light throttle when cruising, the noise is entirely tolerable.

Sounds like I need a Spoon n1 for daily driving.
The TypeOne is probably louder than the spoon but not by much. Lucky you got your b-pipe. I'm still waiting on mine.

Does anybody have the Spoon street muffler? Why is it almost 2x as much as the N1?
--buji, who will eventually have the JDM header and some kind of exhaust
