Default cel code 1 and 43

first things first i know how to use the search but as of right now i dont think its working.

anyways. im driving to work and all of a sudden my engine just shuts off for no reason. i pull over crank does not start but after a few tries it starts. so i figure everything is fine now got down about half a mile and it does the same ****. few cranks and it starts up again. so i juss said f' it i call in to work cuz all my friends work 2nd and 3rd shift so im out of luck as to find a ride home. so i turn around and drive home and it happens 3 or 4 more times. so my question is what could be the problem of this. could a cel code 1 and 43 cause this. o2 sensor and fuel supply system. i wish i would honda-tech search would have worked.

some more info as to what could lead to this problem

1. i have a broken exhaust.?
2. changed my plugs. all four had carbon build on the tips. last one i pulled had like a drop of oil on it.
3. fuel filter needs to be changed

well any help would be great thanks in advance

Definately sounds like ur o2 sensor. Code 1 and 43 both stand for the o2 sensor, well 43 can also sometimes mean other things, injectors, egr, but usually means o2 sensor, I would check ur o2 sensor, make sure the wires are good and not melted, and if it all checks our fine and still have the problem try replacing it with an oem one. Try not to run ur car very long at all with this problem though, with the o2 sensor not working ur car will run really really rich and could be why it has a hard time staying on.

a clogged cat could cause this also, dont leave that out of your considerations

but it probably is just an old o2 sensor....

alright i changed out the o2 sensor. car ran fine until i started drivng and then it shut off on me again. so no im pissed off and confused as to what it could be. i have no codes being thrown. i wanna say its the fuel pump but my car starts fine when it sits for a while. or it could also be my main relay. i remember reading that it could shut off when driving if not fixed. i dunno kinda hard to think right now. ANY suggestion would help thanks alot guys

i would check into the catalytic dude, that makes perfect sense.....at idle its not making enough exhaust to really back up in there, it can probably just seep by the cat.....but once you get going, the exhaust has nowhere to go, and starts backing up into the motor, killing it....

try taking the cat off, and take a look inside, take a picture of you shining a flashlight from one end through, into the camera, if you can see it, i will be surprised.....

you can either hollow it out or get a new one...

if you need a new one just look for a used one on here....

take something long and blunt that will fit inside, go somewhere that you don't mind making a big toxic mess, and bring a big f'n hammer with you....

pound the **** outta the inside until the brick breaks up and falls out in big chunks...

a BFH and a 1 foot punch did me well back in the day....i put it on top of a board of plywood and went to town....

im not sure what codes im hittin, but my lude does the same thing, unfortunatly, i cant restart it after it shuts off. I had the distributor fixed at the beginning of sept, and i came home from school to drive it, and right when i was hittin vtec in 3rd it just shut off again.

im not to sure what the prob is...maybe this is the same thing.

well i put in a new o2 sensor over the weekend. and i havent ran my car much since then (fearing it will shut off again) but im slowly driving it more. n e ways since its been in it hasnt shown any signs of wantin to shut off. i still have yet to check my cat converter since i cant get it off. f***ing thing is rusted on here good. but looking under the car and having someone rev it into high rpms i see that i get the usual water drippin out of it and a nice small cloud of smoke. but now i when im inside the car while driving i smell some exhaust fumes. so im pretty sure my cat is clogged. So what do you think my cat clogged if im smellin fumes inside while driving it doenst smell for long.???
