Default What Should I Do ?????

so here goes, today i take my car in for my first oil change so i decided to get my tires rotated as well. i think its recomended at 7000 miles well anyways, i got it done. It took maybe 45 minutes sweet!! i live about 2 and half hours away from the dealer i live in the keys the dealers in miami. I get in my car and drive away as im driving when i get to about 60mph steering wheel starts shaking bad. I get my cell and call up the service dept. they tell me the rep who handled my car is on the other line so i left my number. I stay in miami shopping with my pregnant wife for a couple of hours.. i get no call back, so after 3or4 hours i call again i finally get the rep so i tell him whats going on he tells me "i told you not to rotate your tires" im like wtf..by this time im half-way home the rep says you need to get your tires balanced...great!! As a service rep shouldnt he have said since your getting your tires rotated they should be balanced??? btw.. when i brought my car in it was driving perfect no shaking whatsoever. first of all if i hadnt called i would have never been called back..secondly he tries to put the blame on me for rotating my tires. Total bs !! WHAT SHOULD I DO ????

Tell him hes a bad rep, its a ROTATE AND BALANCE, the service is supposed to be together...

Find another dealer to service your car, thats what I had to do after my selling dealer left my oil cap off after an oil change.

Actually, it's not. Tire rotation is performed so that the front and rear tires will wear evenly, rather than wearing out the front tires twice as fast as the rears.

Tire balancing is done to correct for the cumulative effects of uneven weighting of the tires and/or wheels, which results in steering shake.

Provided your tires are wearing evenly and the steering doesn't have a steady-speed vibration, you don't need to get the tires balanced whenever they are rotated.

I know what each is for, but in most cases, if you dont do both, you get that result, thats why on most service signs it has them "Rotate and Balance" instead of seperate... I suppose you CAN get them done seperate, but .... didnt think it was smart.

balancing the tires should have no effect during a rotation...unless the tires were dismounted from the rims... If they just rotated the rims a balance is not needed...

I don't want to be chicken little, but there is something more going on than meets the eye.

Rotating your tires would not cause a huge shake that wasn't there before, especially at such a low mileage. Have you checked to see that all of your weights are still on the rims? If you have a wheel that doesn't have a weight, is there evidence that it did?

I would also find another service shop.

IF the rears WERENT balaced or mildly balanced, they shouldnt shake your steering wheel, cause theyre back there where tiny diferences can not be felt on the steering, and if you rotate them, then the effects of that lack of balance will impact your steering wheel....
i think they should have checked if the rears were properly balanced and if not, balance them before bolting them to the car, even if you didnt ask for balancing, because its the only way to go....
id say go balance the tires anywhere and tell the dealer that he didnt his job right....

Did you check to make sure all your lugs were tightened down to specs? Rotating tires should never have this effect on your car. Especially after 7k miles. They F'd something else up, or didnt tighten your lugs all the way.

You shouldnt have rotated so early anyways, practically a waste. I'm rotating mine at 12,000... I just wore off those little 'thingys' on the front tires a couple thousand miles ago.

No tire rotation should cause the steering wheel to shake.... even if its earlier than reccomended. Take it back to the dealership and speak with the service manager.. they are pretty much obligated to make things right for your car with no charge.

just my 2 cents

I could have sworn tire rotation was recommended at 12k.

I Had that problem b4..... i used to have this TSW rims and they are really heavy and everytime im on 60mph to 70mph the steering wheels shakes.. then i replace my rims with Rota's they're really light....the shaking is gone and i didnt have to spend any cash for tire balancing or rotating.

According to the honda service and maintenance books I give out ot my customers, which are from honda. you should get your tires rotated every 10k miles, unless found to need sooner.

As far as balancing, you only need to balance when you get new wheels or tires, or as needed (meaning if you know they are out of balance or you notice your wheel weights have come off or something of that nature)

wheels and tires are not a perfect circle and it makes vibration, this is called out of round. when you put tires on you usually put the worst wheel in the right rear so you dont notice it but when they rotated it they probably put a tire that was out of round up front causing you to notice the vibration. its nothing they can check unless they do a balace and road force check.

I THINK YOU SHOULD LET THE SERVICE MANAGER KNOW. HOWEVER IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOUR REAR TIRES TO BE OUT OF BALANCE AND YOU NOT FEEL THEM. PERHAPS DURING THE ROTATE THE OUT OF BALANCE TIRES GOT PLACED UP FRONT. THE SERVICE GENERALLY DOES NOT COME ROATE AND BALANCE HOWEVER THE TECH SHOULD HAVE TEST DRIVEN YOUR VEHICLE AFTER THE ROTATE THEN LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THE VIBRATION. I WORK AT HONDA SO I KNOW THE PROCEDURE. THATS CRAP THAT THEY TREAT YOU LIKE THAT. YOU GO TO THE DEALER AND EXPECT PROFESSIONALISM BUT SOME OF THEM AREKROOKS!!!!

Definitely check that all your lugs were put on tight. Have you looked at your tires and rims to make sure there is no damage? Document everything and take it back to the dealer; talk to the manager and get it straightened out. And when all is said and done, find somebody else to service your car.
