Default special procedure for boring a b-series?

my question is, do you have to put a block guard in your block before you bore and hone your cylinder walls?

the reason why i am asking about this is because i am taking an engine building class right now and i am rebuilding my first gen b16a. i have some out of round so i have to go .20 over on the cylinder walls.

my teacher says every time he has tried to bore and hone a b-series motor without a block guard he has distorted the cylinder walls. i think the answer to my fisrt question is no you do not have to use a block guard to machine your cylinder walls so this leads to my next questions.

why are the sleaves distorting for my teacher? is there some type of special procedure bore and hone a b-series engine?

here is my other thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1762765

thank you very much

You don't have to put a block guard in to bore/hone a Honda block. Many blocks should be resized using a torque plate (also called a deck plate) but stock Hondas don't require the use of one.If he is getting a lot of out of round then he is getting it to hot and/or using to much pressure. In my opinion Hondas are very easy to get good results boring/honing.
