Advancing igntion timing (can't advance anymore??)
I can't get my igniton to 16 degrees it was way off and lacked power and throttle response. I had the engine idling around 750 rpm and plugged the service connector and adjusted the timing but i advanced it as much as i could and it can't move the distrubutor anymore and is no where near 16 degrees. See the pic to see where I have it now.
The car runs much much better and seems to have the power back but what do i do about it not being 16degrees??? I have yet to take it above 35mph and the response is almost back to where it was. So what is the next step to do?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

First thing I would do is remove the valve cover, set the #1 cylinder to TDC (the 0 mark on the crank lines up w/ the pointer), and make sure everything on the cams and timing belt is lined up correctly, with both cam gears pointing up, and the little dots on the gear teeth directly adjacent to each other.
That's the only reason I could think of that could be keeping you from getting it to 16 BTDC... either that or you connected your timing light's inductive pickup to the wrong plug wire.

I defiantly connectedt it to the right spark plug, closest to timing belt.
When i installed the timing belt i had the crank lined up and the cams were both pointing up. I guess i will double check the alignment and see if this is the problem.
thanks,
Any other ideas?

the gears arnt supposed to "point up" they have tick marks on each side that point inward to each other. That is what is supposed to line up. the arrows that say up may be off a little, but the little tick marks should be fairly close. I bet $10 that's your problem

well buddy i think you are inline for $10
i saw that the ticks marks were close but could have been closer if i moved adjusted the up arrows. I will re-install the belt and see if that is the problem however i am sure it is
Thanks

Were the index marks off from each other by like the width of one tooth on the cam gear? I'm betting you didn't tension the timing belt correctly after installing it. When installing the belt over the cam gears, always pull the belt taught on the left side (that long, straight run from the cam gear down to the crank pulley) and install it over the exhaust cam gear first, and then over the intake cam gear last, then let the tensioner take up any slack on the right side.

i installed the belt in that order and pretty sure i got it tensioned right; rotated the cam 3 teeth counter clockwise and then torqued it down and it pulled tight around the water pump and the crank and 'up marks' were in place after i rotated the crank a couple times to check it. Pretty sure i need to align the ticks better because i was on a slope with stands when i lined the up marks and the ticks were a closer to a tooth off than half a tooth when installed it
is this a new distributor? Did you buy it off ebay?
I bought that SUCKY pos td-44u off ebay for $120 shipped and put it on my 94-95 obd-1 gsr and it ONLY ALLOWED 8-10 degress adv timing. I drilled out the ears and got another degree or two out of it. What a POS, this may be your problem? I ditched that POS and im buying a new TD-68u.
