For you del Sol VTEC and 99-00 Civic Si owners I have a few questions.
1. What is your average mileage for city and highway? In other words, how many miles can you go on one tank?
2. In fifth gear between 65 and 75mph, how fast is the engine turning? (RPM)
3. Does high octane fuel make a difference in fuel economy?
I'm trying to work out the differences in fuel economy, fuel cost, and range for a D16 Civic vs a B16 Civic.

I don't own either but did have a B16 swapped EH2
1) City around 22mpg Highway around 26mpg (Skunk2 stg2 cams, tuned on VAFC2)
2) at 70mph its at 3900rpms
3) It helps a little but you should be using premium anyway to avoid knock.

I own a EM1.
1. 22 city and 26 Highway stock JDM B16 hitting VTEC occassionally.
2. On 5th gear when I'm doing 80 its about 3,8 - 3.9
3. High Octane is a definit if you want your B16 to perform at PAR.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just surprised that at 70mph (I usually drive 65-70 on the freeway) the engine is almost at 4k RPM. It seems kinda high to me (of course I've never had a B-series).

Gas mileage wise its not that bad still. Noise wise, its pretty annoying with an exhaust at times but I've gotten used to it. Also sucks is you can't really cruise higher speeds (80-90mph) with it since the 5th gear is so short. Only advantage is if your just driving normal you don't need to downshift to shift lanes

I have an EM1.
1. I get 27 around the city and 33 on highway with cruise control going 70-75.
2. In fifth gear around 70 75 the rpms are around 4500.
3. Yes high octane is a must my brother put the middle gas in my car once and my gas went so fast I thought somehting was wrong with my car until i asked my brother and he said he put the middle one in cuz he didnt know

1. Average mpg for me is about 30 mpg basically all highway driving. Not sure how many miles per tank havent takin' it that low yet

2. In 5th my rpm at 70mph is just below 4k
3. I don't bother with anything lower then 93 octane

are you talking about RPMs? LOL it is not because of the displacement.
Try putting a Y21/S4C tranny on a B18B and see what happens

lol the reason why the RPMs are so different is because the gearing. Type-Rs are a perfect example. 1.8l but same gearing as the S4C so its also in the 70mph @ 4k range

My girlfriend (who knows a **** ton about hondas) thinks your a retard, btw. It makes her sad that you're using your genitals as an excuse for your own stupidity. For shame.

97 DSV. I set my trip gauge on every tank and do simple math (mileage / gallons put in = mpg).
I normally get between 26 & 31mpg on my usual commute, which is 27 miles, one-way, of mixed highway & city driving. I don't hit 70, but I cruise at around 65mph for 10 or so miles of it.
Back when I lived 3 miles from work and imitated Mario Andretti getting into work in under 5 minutes every day, I got between 19 & 24mpg.
One time I drove back to see my folks at Christmas. Set the cruise at 55mph, drove late at night so I didn't have to constantly avoid traffic by braking & accelerating. Got either 38 or 39mpg. Cruise control is your friend, and it likes to have fewer idiots on the road.
When there's a sign over the gas gauge that reads "premium fuel only" and there's a sign on the gas door that reads "premium fuel only" - use premium. In a pinch you can get by with regular gas, but you don't want to make a habit of it. Mileage will suffer, and the engine doesn't retard ignition until knocking has been detected - you're still damaging the engine, just not as quickly.

I wasn't sure if a B16A3 required premium, that's why I went fishing for answers by asking #3! (friend of mine is planning a B16A3 swap into his coupe and we're trying to get as much info as possible).
