My friend has a 99 si and it doesn't have a knock sensor, and my EG6 Jdm b16a does.

WTF is a knock sensor, and what does it do?

Contemplating to chip ecu to disable it.

A sensor mounted on the engine that is designed to detect the high-frequency vibrations caused by detonation. By employing a knock sensor, a computerized engine-control system allows an engine to operate very near its detonation limit: thereby improving power and efficiency.

in some of the new EVO's apparently the knock sensor was so sensitive that if i car with a loud exhaust rev'd near it or drove by at high RPM, the engine would shut down. forget where i read that.

Actually, the 99 civic SI DOES have a knock sensor...
