Yes you still need sealant. Use grey RTV or Hondabond. They're chemical similar.

if you have a vtec engine, i would return it and pick it one up from the dealer (i have had problems with aftermarket ones). also, they say you need a sealant, but you don't. just make sure you use the rubber gasket (the new one) and torque it to specs. also pay close attention to where the bolts came out of, because the exact one need to in the same spot when bolting up.

i was thinking that i shouldn't have to because it came with a rubber gasket...if i would put something on the rubber gasket it might just cause the gasket not seal right.. thanks

I use aftermarket water pumps all the time, but I'll never purchase another remanufactured one. If you buy them new, non-OEM water pumps are fine. Also, I use Grey RTV or Hondabond on every single sealing part of the motor that may or may come into contact with liquid. If nothing else, it's just one more failsafe

yes, brand new would make sense. wasn't really thinking about the "new" factor. the sealant makes sense too. i just tend to do it the way it was previous thats all. just my preference.

The $5 spent on sealant is WELL worth not having to tear the motor apart again just to change a rubber gasket.
