Default PLEASE HELP!! GS-R problem!!

I have a 95 gsr and was driving home yesterday. It was running fine the all of the sudden the engine died (I was in 4th gear at a steady pace)....

The car turns over but doesnt fire up. When I turn the ignition on, I hear the fuel pump turn on, so I don't think I have a fuel problem.

I tried disconnecting the negative battery lead (this will reset the ECU, right?), opening the distributor cap and cleaning it out.

Has anyone else experienced this? It's just not firing? What can I try?

Any help is greatly appreciated! I searched the forum and didn't see any similar posts.

Thanks!

This happened to me in my CRX I was just driving along and then nothing... My ignition coil went bad.. I replaced it and it ran fine. Check to see if there is any white residue around the coil

check for spark. Check coil and ignitor.

check the dizzy rotor, happened to my friends DA, the little screw that holds the rotor in, got lose...i believe the fuse burnt as well because it was sending spark everywhere...

probably a spark problem like everyone says

check your coil and if you have a friend that has a gsr as well try to borrow their dizzy to see if that infact is the problem

i think it would be easier to get another dizzy and swap out the whole. U can a rebuilt dizzy, or new aftermarket dizzy for under 200 if u search hard enough. A new ICM from the dealer is over 200, so those are ur options

The thing that broke is the ICM (Ignition control module) or coil which is inside the dizzy. The ICM alone is over $200 at the dealer. Usually when a car dies just like that, its the ICM that has gone out. If the cap and rotor were bad, u would feel a gradual decline in peformance, but it would not let the car just stop running and not be able to start. Trust me its the ICM or coil. Its happened to me as well as my other friends before. Once we established that we had no spark, we knew it was inside the dizzy. I got a brand new aftermarket dizzy on ebay for like 160 shipped, and it comes with a lifetime warranty, which is good cuz the place was local to me. My friend got a junkyard dizzy, used for 150, so who knows when that one will go out. Save the headaches of testing each part and get another dizzy. U can also trade in your old dizzy for a core exchange credit at some places.

Thanks for your help! I have a dumb question. My apologies ahead of time...

The dizzy includes the ignition coil, right? I just want to make sure I read your question right. I looked at the ignition coil and it looks like it comes with the dizzy...just want to make sure.

Any suggestions on a high performance one? Or just any...doesn't matter?

How hard is it to switch out?...if my timing is advanced ..i don't need a timing light..right?

Taking off the negative on the battery alone will NOT reset the ECU.. You need to take off the backup ECU fuse that is under the hood in that fuse box too.

but he doesnt know which is bad, the coil or ICM. If he replaces the coil and it turns out to be a bad ICM then he has to spend more money, thats why u just save the trouble and just buy a whole unit.

Here's one I found on ebay, the similar to the one i got for my 00 GSR motor

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

Sure its not OEM, $160, free shipping, the unit is complete, plus it has a lifetime warranty, so if it ever goes out again, send it back and get a new one. U cant beat that deal

Thanks! Quick question though. What is the difference between the TD-44U and the TD-68U? I think both will work, but is one better than the other? I have a 95 GSR. Performance-wise is the TD-68U better?

My GSR did the same thing to me about 4 weeks ago. It ended up being the ignitor coil. I bought a new one from Bap Geon for $48.00 and it took me about 30 minutes total to troubleshoot to find out it was the coil all the way to replacing it. Bap Geon had one in stock so I just had to get a ride there to pick it up.
