After owning 4 EG's im looking to go up to a EM1. Can you guys just tell me some litle facts about Em1's and things that go wrong. I know a lot about EG's but not too much about EM1's
They just about all have crappy pass window motors and take an *** load of time to rool up.
Other than that, they don't rust, they aren't stolen too much, they get good gas mileage, and so on. I love mine but it's not even remotely close to how Honda intended it.

The only problems Ive had were the window motor and regulator messng up on both windows other then that its good I have 54000 miles on my EM1. I get around 27mpg in the city and about 33 mpg on interstate using cruise control.
The EM1 sucks. Stick with the EG. You'll thank me later.

Thinking like this, will most likely end up with you crying in an empty parking space some day. At the very least get a good security system with kill switches and all that. EM1s are probally the most stolen honda, next to EG hatches.
I used to live in thousand oaks(one of the safest cities in CA if not the entire US), in a gated community, I used to think like you, till one morning around 2 I heard a couple of guys talking out in the street and then a window break that sounded like it was really close. I called the cops immediatley and it turned out it was my car they broke into/were trying to steal...which was dumb as hell because at the time it was a nearly stock CX. they dusted it for prints and caught a guy a week later who at the time was driving a stolen car.

truth.
em1 seats are the same as regular 96-00 civic seats, just a different pattern on the fabric. uncomfortable as hell and no support at all.

Everyone in here is just mad at the em1 because when they got it, they were expecting their civic si to be a racecar.
The em1 is a nice daily driver. The second you hear anyone complain about the lack of torque, ask them if they are familiar with the gear ratios, and the correlation torque through gears. Then they'll probably complain about how the 5th gear cruising rpm is so high, and then you can ask them of their experience of short stroke, high rod/stroke engines.
The civic si does have unique seats. Take a look at the headrests if you don't believe me.
I owned one for over a year, and traded it for a highly modified eg hatch. I love my hatch. But there are often times when I wish that I still had a vehicle more suited for daily driving.
If you get the 99-00 civic si thinking that it's a racecar. You are gravely mistaken. But if you do choose to modify it eventually, it has an excellent drivetrain as a foundation.
After searching for over a year when I had my em1, I concluded that the absolute most bang for the buck was to get a lsd and a final drive. A 4.928 final drive and a itr/obx/whatever LSD is an excellent choice. I would run a gsr 5th of 0.787 with a 4.928 final drive so that your highway cruising rpms aren't compromised. It is this realization that made me dig deeper into transmission modifications.

Thankyou bense- Ive been in a few EM1's and i know they are not fast at all. But waht i see in them is a b16 from the factory, an excellent suspension, and good looks. I love how everyone is complaining about the seats, when all they have to do is take out 8 bolts and swap out the seats. I wouldnt hate a car just if i didnt liek the seats hahaha

power everything! cool cluster.
window regulators, not to hard to fix.it seems that you have read a lot about and you know exactly what to expect. it is definitely a step up from an eg but it is almost 7-8 years old. i dont know why people are saying the seats suck, they're like the other civic seats. it's an EX with a relatively better motor and tranny and special interior/exterior stylings. i love my em1.

Great post. What makes an em1 a good car is all about what you want out of it. If you're looking for all out perfermonce drag or track car the em1 wouldnt be a good starting point. But where the em1 shines is that it compromises stock performance and daily drivability. Sure you can get some cheap chassis and do a swap, and it will be faster than the em1. But not everyone wants to deal with problems that come along with swaps and smogging issues. The em1 comes with a b16 stock with ac and power everything. It lacks torque but the short gear ratios kinda make up for that and makes it very fun to drive. Just like any other civic it has great handling potential with a deep suspension aftermarket. So basically if you're looking for a civic and dont want to deal with a swap, but still want performance, the em1 is for you. Overrall its a very fun car to have.
