My girlfriend has a 96 honda accord vtec im not sure if she has the k22 or y22. She bought it from someone who wouldn't have messed with the motor. It has 175k miles on it. Her dad has been using castrol 5w-30. The vtec hasnt worked in 2 years. It does not throw any codes. Im wondering if it's the oil she's using, the vtec soleniod or maybe a bad wire. Is there anyway to check it? Would it be better to run a thicker oil? Maybe some lucas oil stabilizer? Thanks

first thing to check is the mesh of the vtec solenoid

don't use luca's product...except small stuff like injector cleaner, because all the other stuff never really do/fix anything.


it should throw a code, what trim is the car?

 

any picture of the vtec soleniod? i think it's the round thing on the back of the valve cover with the 4 wires coming out of it correct?
