white smoke out of the eg
i have a 95 cx hatchback, yesterday it started smoking white when reving pass about 4 grand. i looked over eveything and it seems fine it also runs strong. there is no loss in power. i was told it could be the the head gasket. i did a quick searched and came up with that if its the head gasket it would smoke at idle as well. i was wondering if any one had some ideals so i can locate the problem before putting my turbo on
well you might as well replace the headgasket now. if youre going turbo you should take care of all your maintanence. sparkplugs/dizzy cap/rotor/headgasket/possibly timing belt if youre getting close to being due.
flush your oil and antifreeze and check both for consistency. if your oil seems milky or your antifreeze seems oily, you have a problem. does the car overheat? don't always go by the dash temp gauge, warm the car up and see if you have any boil over into your reserve. this is all to rule out your head gasket because my head gasket went and my exhaust never smoked at all. white smoke can be caused by carbon also. after you rule out the gasket, tune it up with plugs/dizzy/wires and so on. seafoam might cure it, but i've heard horror stories (such as my own) of seafoam burning up carbon that was plugging holes in gaskets.
it does not over heat but i does lose coolant. it loses about the the abount the reserve holds
also i dont know if this helps i jsut pulled my spark plugs and they all of oil on the threads

You dont have to go so far as to drain the oil and coolant. First, check your dipstick. If the oil on it looks milky, you're leaking coolant into the oil. Then open the radiator cap. See if the coolant is brown or if it looks like it has oil in it. Look for the milky color again. It doesnt HAVE to smoke at idle for it to be the head gasket. That oil on your plugs I believe (not 100% sure) is most often caused by blow by due to worn piston rings.

also is it worth goign to honda for the cap and roter or can i go the napa route?</TD></TR></TABLE>
you dont need dealer parts, any will do as long as its from a well known shop (kragen, pep boys, autozone, napa). like i said do all your regular maintanence and check if its still smoking.

well, if the oil and coolant are clean, like knockout said. Maintenance. Full tuneup, plugs wires cap and rotor. Make sure the plugs are gapped correctly, dont just throw them in.
i was losing coolant also, it actually seemed as though it was dissapearing...it didnt leak, i didnt see any...it was just gone. turns out i was leaking compression from 2 cylinders into my coolant and it was evaporating, steaming up in my block, causing my coolant to boil into my resevior...but my temp gauge never budged.

that would be a headgasket.
and to the OP:
you seem to have somewhat similar symptoms so id change the headgasket.

I notice every few months the coolant level in my resivoir goes down. I dont beleive this is related to your smoking issue.

i would just like to take the time to say thankyou to all those of you who didnt make the typical blue= oil, black=fuel, white=coolant post. I see that in so many threads, and it bothers me tremendously, not because it is faulse information, just because everyone and their grandma posts it to try to impress people or somthing. anyways, im done bitching and being off topic.
i too have white smoke come out, but this is when i floor it pretty much the only time and its not alot very little its not blowing up my engine so im not that worried about it.. ******* slow d 15 im breaking this bitch in!!!
also my coolant and oil looks fine.
