Default i think i have a good idea on cheap power for my new Sol.... opinions wanted!

So i had posted the other day about a 93 del sol i baught for a couple hundred bucs and was wondering what the best way to go was...
I did a tiny bit of research, and found a cheap way to have the horses i desire for my kind of driving.. so i will post the stats on what i was looking at and see who might have tried the same thing or who disagrees.. thanks

» Jdm engine : ZC DOHC G2
» Year : 92-95
» Valve train : DOHC, VTEC, 16 Valve
» Jdm transmission : Hydaulic
» Displacement : 1.6L

» Horsepower : 133 HP
» Torque : N/A
» Compression : 11.0:1

» Price : 750.00$ (USD)

And second

A t3/t4 complete turbo kit (incl) waste, interclr, oil lines everything..

Price : $650-700 (usd)

Odds and ends will be DC sports 4into1, cheap adj. coil overs, brembo/ebc big brake kit, skunk2 or apexi intake mani. and cat back, and a hondata comp. that best suits.. And of course a full gutting including a/c rear window and motor (which i might just plexi the rear window, door panels, seats out (just stereo for driving music (no box), driver seat (40lb alum racn seat), and strut bars... might even take the dash out, who knows..

So what do you all think?
I'm shooting for 160-180hp for under 2000$ total car and all..

boost hands down

And I'm pretty sure the DOHC ZC is non-VTEC.

I concur.

I don't see why so many people are obsessed with swaps (especially JDM). Boost what you've got and save $$$. You'll pat yourself on the back later on down the road when you think about how much more money you could have spent.

well it would help if you explained how you would do it then? The engine in it is shot, i killed every insect within 100ft when i started it and ran it.. so the engine has to come out anyway..
But if i can get 160-180hp out of just boost and a factory d series engine without spending a $1000 on the top end and or blowing the engine up every five times i use it i'm all for it!

So hook me up with some detail please!

D-Series.org

TurboD16.com

And H-T's own FI forum.

Edit: If your motor is shot, find another single cam locally. I picked up a mint D16y7 w/ tranny for $300. 55k miles.

So you want to use a dc header with your turbo set up?

Other then that, make sure you get a good tune, don't cheap out since the compression is high.

The ZC engine is not VTEC. You will not need a header if you are boosting the car. When did A'PEXi start making an intake manifold? You better check and see what bolt pattern the ZC engine shares for intake manifold. I am doubting it is a B-Series PR3 pattern. Morn then likely SOHC's. I am not sure off the top of my head. Could be different entirely. Brembo kit is like a couple grand. Plus 17's minimum and not all of those will clear. Waste. Just pads/lines and good fluid and good TIRES is all you need. KTeller 3". More power, cheaper. Forty pounds is HEAVEY for a seat. Look elsewhere. Best thing to do is do a LOT of research and spend your money wisely and piece the turbo kit together if you are set on doing that. Just find a replacement single cam from a local junk yard. If not, D15B is a good option for a bolt-in low cost option.

I just copy/pasted the stats for the zc on here from a jdm import website, so i guess they made the mistake of labeling it vtec.. Skunk2 manifold apexi exhaust is what i meant...
I don't know what to do...I have a b18b1 and a small garett t3 in my garage, maybe i'll just buy the motor mounts and drop it in.. Who knows? I'm beginning to miss my integra, i know that much.. Just need something to speed in! (EASY)

he'll definately want to sleeve that pos motor if he wants to boost it. so it'll be more then 2k.

to the OP:
just buy a d16z6, boost it and call it a day. you can get 180whp out of 9 psi with a conservative tune so it'll be within your power goals/budget easily.

nix the big brake kit and just get some brembo non slotten/drilled rotors and some ceramic pads. big brake kits are a waste of money IMHO

DOHC ZC's are DOHC head and a SOHC bottom end......it uses a single cam tranny... DOHC ZC's love boost but they also are known to spin bearings......there is my 2 cents on this

I'm pretty sure DOHC ZC's didn't come in VTEC.

Anyways, either way, it's not 133whp, just bear in mind that it's more like 90-100whp... Though it's all possible (except using DC 4-2-1 header with a turbo mani....that's not possible...the turbo manifold takes the place of hte header, you don't have to buy one). Your goals are realistic though, though I say boost what ya got, you can make 180hp at the wheels (whp) with WHATEVER engine you have in there now (as long as it's healthy). You don't have to buy a super cool JDM engine to be gayer than you already are...you got the job done, don't worry.
