Default Base model Head question.

Ok i know that the base k20 head only runs v tec on one cam, and it runs 12 valves untill 2200 rpms. I wanted to know If i swap out my cams, run a different ecu, get head ported and poleshed, and changed valve terain. Would it be just as good as a type s head?? Can some one tell me all the differences of the Base head with the type S head. Also whats the differences in the block besides pistons?? Gimme a little help im thinkin about what to do with this head...

well, the k20a2 and k20z1 are better internally built than our pathetic excuse for k series vtec motors. The compression ratio are a bit higher in the S motors and you prolly know that the S head has 3 cam lobes for both intake and exhaust sides making a more noticable vtec crossover. I believe with a good set of cams, Kpro, good I/H/E combo and maybe some s2000 valve springs, you'll be right up near k20a2/z1 territory. No promises. There has been a head swap before on a k20a3. Pretty much like doing an LS-VTEC. The guy that did it had to swap out the rocker arm assembley or something and needed oil squirters and some other mods. He made an extra 40whp I believe from his combo. It cost him about $1,800 in the end. I wish I could find that link.

nice, I'll be looking into skunk2 for my valvetrain now. I'd recommend Crower too, but not too sure if they are for the a3.

A 6spd tranny swap would be a great investment if you drive back and forth on the highway like me or like going fast and having the luxury of another gear in your top end.
