Hi! I'm new to these forums. I'm just wondering about the whole MPG of the civic since its supposed to be obsoleet, 30 city/ 40 Highway. I got a EX sedan and was wondering about my MPG because I can never reach 300+ at least in the city. I drove very slowly and so so, never mashed once and only got around 230 miles before I filled up again. I usually fill up when 2 bars remain and that's about 2.7 gallons or so left. My oil life was at 70% and I recently changed it. I only had 1700miles on it when I changed it and I am using Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-20 oil with a K&N oil filter. Right now I'm seeing if my mileage will increase...hopefully. Also for some reason, my car still reads the Oil life at 70%. Anyone mind giving me some advice/info. upon this problem? My car should be able to run synthetic oil just fine since it says so in the owner's manual. My friend recommended an oil change and if that doesn't help then he says that I didn't break in my car properly. As I remember during the break in period, I didn't mash or do anything to crazy that often. If anyone has similar problems or can help out with some advice and pointers, I would gladly appreciate it, thanks.
just so you know, the gas tank doesnt hold 13 gallons like it says... I drove 30 miles on one bar with the light on to get gas, and it only took 11.7 gallons. I doubt i had over a gallon left when i got there.
You may have had that much gas left because there is a reserve that is not included in the bars on the dash. In my Si the most I've gotten out of the tank (with no bars showing) was 365 miles. I can't tell you why you're getting such horrible mileage but you should have left the stock oil in until 5k miles because it is a diffent "break-in" oil. Shouldn't make a big difference but I have about 5k on my car now and the milage has definately gotten better as the car has broken in. If it doesn't improve in a couple more thousand miles, I would take it back to honda to see what they think. Maybe something is defective that is either screwing up your milage or just screwing up the dash reading. Good Luck!
not sure how you are driving, i have an si and can get around 350+ mpg (probably 400 if i drove it like a wuss)... my dad has the EX and he can get close to 400mpg... do you let the car idle a lot? maybe you're driving it too slow? 230 seems rediculously low...
The more mileage you put on the car, the better the mileage will get, when I first got my Si, I would get like 230 to the tank, and now, 2500 miles later I am getting over 300 to the tank.
At 1700 miles, you shouldn't have changed your oil, and also that % in the cluster needs to be reset, I don't believe it actually monitors the condition of the oil, it probably runs based on mileage. You might be able to reset it in the same manner that you reset your trip meter.
About capacity of fuel tank, I usually fill up with about 12.5 gallons.
Hope I was helpful...

i dont know about the mpg or how much it takes ( i never pay attention to it ?) but as for the reset , it says it in the manuel but all you have to do is hit the select / reset til u get to the point where it on oil life % then hit n hold reset button it should be flashing once its flashing hit reset and it shoud start over , again check your manuel i keep on forgetting how to explain it rather then doing it lol

hmm...thanks for the advice guys. I guess I'll just take your guys' word for it and wait till the mileage gets up there and see if there's any improvement on my gas mileage.
I'm getting about 350 miles on a tank not a gallon. when I first got the car i was only getting about 250 to the tank. also like everyone else said you should've left you original oil in till the 5000 miles were on the car like it recommends. just put some more miles on it and you'll see your miles per gallon go up.
The not running AC helps, cooler air, not so much...
I think the SI could nearly touch 400miles highway on one tank, cuz I get at least 250-300 on a tank each week but I VTEC no less than twice a day, and like to romp on the pedal.
