Trick or Treat! October is here- the month where the leaves embark on a color transformation, Germans drink a lot of beer, and kids dress up as ghouls, goblins, or their favorite superhero as they wander the streets in search of treats. This month, I bring you kids the ultimate treat, a 2003 Nissan 350Z Track with plenty of tricks up its sleeve.

For most people, a Track Edition 350Z is all the sports car they need. The cars aggressive growl from the factory 287hp 3.5L V6, Upgraded Brakes, Lightweight 18" wheels, front & rear spoilers, and aggressive, yet sophisticated styling make it the ideal vehicle for daily driving, with enough punch to take to the track after loosening your tie on the weekends. For most people that is good enough. For most people...

For Charles of CJ-Motorsports.com, better known as ‘mister2racer,’ here on IRNN, it wasn't good enough. Some of you may recognize Charles, or his business CJ Motorsports. Having made quite the name for themselves in the MR2 community, and now the Z community, Charles is no stranger to creating vehicular masterpieces. Therefore, it is not even mildly surprising that since Charles took delivery of his 2003 Nissan 350Z Track, the car has gone through a complete makeover.

On the outside, subtle changes make Charles' 350Z a bird of a slightly different feather. From the factory, Nissan upgraded the Z's 17" alloy wheels to 18" lightweight counterparts for the Track edition. Charles took it a step further and installed a rare set of Advan TC-II Gold 18" wheels which immediately set the car apart from every other Z out there. The Track Edition's upgraded Brembo Brakes were scrapped in favor of Stoptech 14" brakes, utilizing Axxis Ultimate Pads in front, and OEM Porsche 911 Turbo pads in the rear.

In a further effort to set his Z apart from the rest, Charles replaced the factory black paint with Graphite Gray Pearl paint to ensure that his Z was exceptionally unique. A Kaminari Front Lip assists in drawing air into the Greddy Intercooler, which keeps air fed by the Twin Turbos under the hood cool.

A Veilside V2 hood, Greddy Side Skirts, and a NISMO rear wing give the car an exotic, one of a kind look. Custom CJ-Motorsports air vents in the factory bumper feed cool, fresh air into the intakes and power steering cooler. Every part was upgraded with function in mind.

With a swift peek under the hood, the untrained eye would presume that Charles was fairly pleased with the 3.5 liter's performance from the factory. But that is to the untrained eye... If we take a closer look, we see Greddy Twin turbos hiding beneath piping. We see a CJ Motorsports custom Oil Cooler. We see a CJM custom S2 fuel system. We see that there is nothing factory about this car. The motor was pulled and rebuilt with CP 9:1 pistons, bored .020 over, and mated with Pauter rods. The CJM 3.5L ported heads are adorned with Jim Wolf S1 Cams, HKS Headgaskets, upgraded Headstuds, with Ferrera 1mm Oversize Valves, Springs and Retainers. The twin Greddy turbos force 14.5psi through a custom CJM Intake Manifold, and out of the motor through custom 3" CJM Downpipes and an APS Dual 3" Exhaust.

Now, controlling all of this power was not possible with the factory computer. Charles' 350Z purrs to the tune of 573 horsepower and 536 ft/lbs of torque. This is made possible with the assistance of an HKS FCON V Pro Engine Management System tuned by Charles, himself. On the inside, an HKS EVC Boost Controller, an HKS Knock/Amp Wideband, and an HKS Knock Meter keep Charles in touch with what is happening under the hood. Defi Boost and Oil Temperature gauges ensure that things are kept under control, and a Tein EDFC allows in-car control of suspension damper setting

The 350Z's upgraded track suspension was scrapped in favor of Tein Flex Coilovers, Hotchkis Sway Bars, and JIC Rear Camber and Traction Rods. These upgrades make certain that Charles remains in control at all times. Moreover, NISMO Wheel Studs and a CJM Drag Suspension are utilized when at the Drag Strip.

Charles' Nissan 350Z is an ideal display of the mentality some of us own when working on our vehicles. What we have is never good enough. Even at this point, Charles is still not impressed. As I type this, and as you read it, Charles' tricked out treat is on the dyno, breaking 600whp+ numbers, and then driving reliably on the highway blowing away anything that crosses its path.

This car is disgustingly fast. Seen it run down the track a few times...
Charles is a great guy as well, met him about two years ago. Does he still work at C&J Motorsports or is that shop still even around?

Charles has sold the shop and is now a private tuner and full-time student.
