I bascially did the same thing.
Lowered motor all the way to the ground (wheels off) onto a thick blanket.
Jacked car up as high as possible, then grabbed blanket corners and dragged motor out from underneath!!!!
Did my buddies prelude motor the same way.

Know any bouncer buddies?
When my buddy needed some muscle I called up a friend of mine (350lb 6'5")
He only bench presses 505 and squats 800 something... He grabbed the gsr motor out with two hands and put it on his shoulder. I was 10 different kinds of impressed.

When my friend and I took out my B16 (complete with tranny still on). we first jacked the car up as high as possible onto jack stands, put a small dolly, then proceeded to unbolt the mounts and wires and all that crap, and used a jack with a spare donut on it to lower the motor onto the dolly. Then rolled the motor out. A little harder than how I described but not too bad.

I was waiting for some jackass to say this. It has nothing to do with the thread.
If you can get your car jacked up high enough you should be able to drag it out the bottom. If all else fails, single cam heads are pretty easy to yank off. You could always pull the head and drag the short block out from underneath. Or you could just go rent one. Not sure how Canada is, but there are tons of tool and equipment rental places where you can rent whatever you need for the hour, 1/2 day, day etc....

I bought a chain hoist for $30 from a local importer and wrapped some aircraft cable over a rafter in the garage...voila, instant engine hoist.
If you can pull the head, trans, and accessories off (alt, A/C comp, PS pump, etc) then 2 buff guys can probably lift it up and out. If not, lower the engine onto a blanket and jack the front end up as high as you can...you can roll the block over and slide it out.

Im going to remove the head anyways since its the bottom end thats blown, so i guess i should have no problem lowering the transmission and block out like posted above. Thanks for your help
I just recently did it with a motorcycle jack. you can bring the whole engine and tranny with this baby. You have to put your car in jack as high as possible then use the motorcyble jack to remove the whole thing if you have to. you can use it for your tranny too.
put 2 jacks under each side as low as they will go where they still support the car then put 1 jack under the motor after everything is disconected drop the motor a little easy they raise the 2 jacks up all the way i put a peice of plywood under the motor with rope through it so it woul be easier to pull pull out from the drivers side.... u can avoid all this by just buying a hoist it makes it alot easier it worth the 140.00 or so good luck
