Default 05 S2k, Questionable damage in trunk area? but bought new from dealership....

okay well tonight just out of curiosity i pulled the trunk panels out of my 2005 S2000, well it caught my eye that there was alot of seal sealer applied after the car was painted. The bottom panel that dips down where the tools would be held. it appeared to have been replaced. I own a paint and body shop so this is why it caught my eye, also noticed where the factory seam sealer was painted and you can see where the new seal sealer goes over top the old, the new has not be painted. Also i bought this car brand new in December 04 at Honda in Mobile, Alabama. It also had a small crease in the 1/4 panel when i purchased, which they knocked off some cash for that, also this is the first manufactured S2000 for 05. but if anyone else has an S2k and can check and see if the seams are unpainted like mine are in the pictures that i attach, or if they are painted, but i can clearly see that the seam sealer was applied after paint and was put on really messy and over bolt holes. Also about 6 months ago i had a defect in a Ac fan coming apart, the blade broke clean off on the mold line causing damage to the radiator, and this happened in my basement when i first started the car. i still had the blade that came off actually stuck in the radiator, ( so they knew i wasn't driving it when this happened) but would not warranty this either. sat at the dealership for about 3 weeks. but check your s2ks out for me and see if they are like mine, thanks.

in the second pic you can see where the new seal sealer(white) is going over the orignal which was painted.

Have you contacted the dealer? I would call your sales rep and inquire about it. If the car is damaged, im sure you will be able to get your money back.

Car's get damaged before purchase all the time. No way of tracking it down. Did you look under the car to see if there was anything a miss there? If it was <U>really</U> damaged, you'd be able to tell as you should already know. If there are no signs under the car, I'd have to right it off as strange, but not affecting anything. I've worked on brand new never owned $80K BMW's that had dents on the quarter panels from being on the car lot that I am sure the actual buyer will never know about.

Have you checked to see if the VIN tags are on your bumper and trunk deck? If the repair required a new rear to be put on and putty'd in, then chances are the wreck was pretty bad, and a new bumper or trunk was needed.

Also, why not yank a seat and some carpet and see if the seams there are painted or not- just for grins. All of my Honda/Acura products have always been painted over that sealer stuff- so it is not sticky.

well i know for sure the vin tag on the trunks is right b/c the last six digits are 000001,( first one for 2005) but also i bought this car new off the lot in december 04, had a lot of small things that i notice about the car, the rear end actually pops from time to time and the exhaust has always rattled and when the car is cold it pops out of 2nd gear..and a defected ac fan blade...lol but im just now beginning to mod this car after 2yrs of owning it and i notice the trunk. my dad owns a mechanic shop so i have checked the rear end and suspension out on a lift and looks good but i wasn't really nit picking looking for damage b/c it was a new car. but i'm about to get into changing alot of stuff out so hopefully it was just a mix up at the plant and they forgot to put the seam sealer in the trunk before paint.

Hope this helps. This car also has the same thing going on. Maybe nothing is wrong?

The pic was taken from a s2ki member that parted out that s2k. I just happened to stumble across this picture. Hope it helps
