Well the other day after finally building a decent but rich map on the ol standalone I take the car out and it is running great when all of a sudden on a pull at about 7,800rpm and 14psi the car studders out. I was like "*#@!". Came to a stop, no smoke, or signs of foreign fluids being burnt. Car will not idle for **** and quits. Oil, coolant, and timing all checked out. I pull the plugs and they all look great other then being rich. So I figured I fouled a plug, changed them and still the same thing. So I have the car towed home and the next day run a dreaded compression check. One cylinder reads 0, sweet! So I pull the valve cover off and find one of the valves being held open with the lifter. I loosened the nut and tried to loosen the adj screw. Well the whole assembly comes up with it and stays tight. The top of the valve and keepers are all intact. I took a screwdriver and moved the valve spring from side to side. I am guessing it broke the valve in half somewhere, probably at the top of the stem. I am assuming the bottom part luckily did not go into the cylinder because the motor cranked over fine and the spark plug showed no damage. What do you all think happened? These were not stock valves but stainless with high rate dual valve springs. What damages do you estimate?
