1997 Civic HX exhaust...
it will work.but you will need to make and "test pipe." local muffler shop should be able to do it for $20 or under.
only exhaust that would work without problems with be a dx exhaust since it has the same exhaust manifold with the cat in that location.

or another thing you could do.
Is switch to a d16y8 exhaust manfiold, a y8 cat. extend your Secondary O2 wires and run it that way. On a slightly more performance asspect i guess. My buddy and I did that to his Hx with a JRSC on it. Works fine.

id recommend you do that. running without a cat is bad for the enviornment and sounds ricey. get a d16y8 (civic ex) exhaust manifold and cat, put on the exhaust and put it all on your car and youll be good.

too be honest. i know u want some more power and a nice sound. but save ur money man it aint worth it. i had a 97 civic hx with i/h/e. it will yeah help out a lil bit, but the hx is a the fuel economy civic.( even tho they all are) this ones packin 115hp. it aint worth the money. ur gona spend a lot of money and time on this and the outcome isnt great at all. youll jus get people trying to race u when you cant back it up. id recomend getting a gsr motor like i did to my hx after i realized the sohc motor jus aint gona work out.

well to be honest, if he wants something "fast" then he should just throw out the civic all together. sure a b18c1 in a civic is quick, but its not what most would consider "fast". hes just working with what hes got. theres nothing wrong with an sohc engine, power output is awesome with a turbo and its cheap and reliable with a good tune. so he can swap if he chooses to, but if he wants to be "fast", civics arent the cars to be looking at.
