Default How to take out the damn Alternator

I am currently preping my car to swap the motor out. I am following the instructions as given from a online manual that I found. Instructions say to remove the alternator. I was able to remove the damn thing off the block but I am unable to pull the damn thing out of the engine bay. Seems that the brake pump is in the way. Anyone have suggestions on how to remove the alternator?

I have a 90 si hatchback
Thanks.

if you are taking the motor out why remove the alternator? just drop the motor out the bottom its 10x easier. If you need to get the alternator out for another reason you need to remove it through the bottom, remove the axle on that side and it will drop right out.

I have to ask as others did, if you are swapping the motor out, what's the purpose of removing the alternator? Anyways to answer your question, the master cylinder is in the way. It's a tough one but I had to remove my axle to drop the alternator out. Later I found that if you remove the oil filter, you can reach from under the intake manifold going in from the passenger side of the car and pull it out that way. I should've done it like that but oh well, next time I guess.

according to this engine removal guide that i have it says to remove the alternator. Which was a bitch to take the last bottom bolt out, busted out a flat screw driver and a mallet. I will take it out from the bottom using the axel removal technique :-)

Thanks guys,.

Yes i do need help, but no one is available just yet.

hey teamsonic, wasnt meaning to sound like a dick.. just too much time in the army heheh. as for the ac lines and compressor, remove the radiator and take em out that way.. itys what i did. no need to remove the bumper like some people will tell you. thats bullshit.

Just use some channel locks and take the hard lines off. The lines do not have any freon in them. I want to take the ac cooler off to. By the looks of things i think i need to take the front end off to remove that **** out.

for the alternator, if you already haven't done so...it goes in through the drivers side wheel well. You will have to remove the lower alternator bracket. The position in the picture is where it's ready to go up into position. I don't understand why so many people remove axles, mc's, etc.

If it's B series I just take out the master cyclinder and it's easy as pie.

If it's D series from what I hear you can slide it under the intake manifold and it cmes out the other side, I've never tried this though....
