4100? is that canadian?
I bought my complet swap including wire conversion, pr3 ecu, YS1 tranny w/ LSD, and hasport billet mounts and SiR axles and half shaft for about 3100$ By the time I got to 4100 I had ITR valve train, rear discs, a new clutch, new tachometer, CAI, and exhaust... Oh yea.. let's throw in 100$ more for the new custom floormats that say CRX vtec on them

Yeah but Jeff totally rebuilds them with all new parts. It's like getting a totally new motor. He builds awesome CRVTEC's too

Not to take anything away from Import Builders, but building with new parts is not uncommon. In fact, I don't know anyone that build motors with used gaskets. If you're going to praise them, you need a better reason than that.

When you consider all the new parts and labor, it's worth peace of mind.
PS-at that price you can let him know what other options you want to add on, (CTR cams, pistons etc)

You can build a brand new longblock from Honda for about $3200. Just buy a brand new short block and a brand new Type R head. shortblock goes for about $1700 and head goes for $1200. Oh, thats a Type R bottom end also.

Prices from acuraautomotiveparts.net:

B18C5 shortblock - 1694.30
B18C5 head - 1343.89
'92 GSR YS1 cable tranny - 3422.90

Prices on new B16 shortblocks/heads are about equivalent...it's that damn tranny that's the problem.

That's a little too much. I can do it for less than that. Plus I get the hook up for all the honda parts.

Wow! Let me say that backwards... woW!

$ 4,100 is no joke! Yikes! Alright, now that I've got that outta my system...

Any of you educated motorheads out there able to give some kind of rationalization or breakdown of this cost? I have to admit I've checked out the site as well, and just from my experience, whenever it says "Call or email for price" that's usually a bad thing.

On the plus side, they do pretty much give you EVERYTHING (as far as I can tell) that you need to drop it in and rip. And it's more or less brand new, right? Guess that accounts for something...Anyone else get any price quotes from the same site on different setups? Just curious...

I'll be in the market for upgrading my b16 to an ls or crv block, so if anybody has any experience with these cats, lemme know! Are they solid? Competitive prices? Can't really find alot of other sites that sell hybrid crated motors. Anybody got any of those to throw at me?

Thanks for the read.

I wasn't referring to just new gaskets. That price is the WHOLE SWAP. He rebuilds them with all new pistons, valves, etc. TOP and BOTTOM end I'm fairly sure. The machine shop he uses is right next door, and like it was mentioned they do CTR pistons, diff cams, etc at your request. He'll even install it and dyno tune it for a little extra, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not justifying the cost really, but although it seems like a lot, it's a practically new engine, whereas sometimes you can spend up to 2000+ for the whole swap, and get a motor pulled right out of a wrecked vehicle with little more than a leakdown/compression test done. I've emailed back and forth with Jeff quite a few times, and he seems to know what he is talking about, and didn't come off to me as trying to rip people off. Just my .02 cents.

These are the blocks you can get built.
http://www.importbuilders.com/block_parts.htm

I'm hoping to get my B20 block built there by the end of summer.

4100 for a b16a? wtf are you guys on crack?with pump and everything and swap?
that's american too right?

i get offers like 2800 to 3000 cdn for complete b16a swaps and rebuilt or not.. 4100 american is a tad pricey for an old motor.. you can replace the parts but it's still an old motor. for 4100 US i can make a low 14 second car out of a b16a with the car since my car is gonna be 5k cdn into the mid 14s with my ef 4dr

4100... y no tjust buy a GSR swap i got quoted 4000 cdn complete or y not just go h22 or b16a2JDM for 4100 US you can do a lot more than just a b16a rebuilt with new pump timing belt etc etc

just my 2cents

the price for a b16 rebuild is a bit pricey, but that's what it costs. a better idea would be to spend the same money, and maybe a little extra, and get perhaps a 1.8 block built with forged rods and pistons, gsr pumps, etc.
