91 CRX shakes between 50-65 mph .............. What could be the prob?
Hi Im new........... I was told I could get good info here to help with my CRXs problem.
It shakes almost violently every 2 seconds when Im going from 50-65 mph and when I brake. I balanced the wheels and inspected the bottom. Everything looks good, besides a loose rubber weight on the drivers side drive shaft(wich I taped back to its original position).
A friend says the boots need to be changed again, but they dont really click around the corners or anything.
Do you think you know what it could be?

could be ur axles still. i know my inner joint is worn out cuz the boot was torn for awhile and the grease got out and caused a shimmy at the same speeds. try checking ball joints and tie rod ends to.
I had the exact same problem and I was told by a honda technician to first check the upper and lower ball joints (check Helms manual for how to), and if that wasn't the problem then its probably the CV joints. On my car I ended up just replacing the axles and it fixed the problem
Mine had the same problem. I tried all the suspension parts, inspected everything. Still wiggled.
I just got a wheel balance and it solved the problem completely.
EDIT: didn't see u already did that, sorry.

Yes, my saturns caliper actually froze up on me, causing it to grab the warped rotor as it went around, and shook the car at high speeds....quite similar to your description. Also, it had a broken belt on that same tire, so that kinda helped with the vibe too.

I had bad tires.
Bought cheap ones.
they were self destructing
vibration was exactly at the same speed
put new tire on and smoothness
have shop check tires and rebalance them
wheels could be out of round
both of these can be the case and not show with the closest of visual inspections
I orig thought it was warped rotors, then alignment, but it was tires and wheels, I now have a full size spare with the best of the old fron wheels.
After changing flats from tires that sudenly identified themselves as bad.
One even had the entire tread separate in one piece(as a ring), it was of course a Firestone that came with the car when I bought it.

AHA
I missed the boot issue the 1st read.
You will need new axels.
Dont replace the boot, that wont buy you enough time to be worth it.
Replace the axel. Trust me replacing the boot is just as much hassle especially since you will still be replacing the axel(s) soon
If they aren't clicking yet you have time to save money for the axels.
It is a pretty ez job.
PS
your wheels may have issues but with the torn boot, we KNOW you have cv axel issues.
