hmmmmm will it work?
i currently have a cut aem 3" cai which is now a sri. as you all know, its metal and it absorbs engine bay heat. hot enough that you cant hold on to it after a spirited drive.
what i plan on doing is taking those pepboys reflective windshield heat shied, cut it to specs, and wrap my intake with it. if it does wonders against the sun, would it also work against the heat in the bay???

It won't help much...

You may also melt that stuff if you put it in the engine bay too. Something to keep in mind. Personally, I don't think it would make much of a difference if any.
Lets say that it does work. Your still sucking in engine bay tempuratures because of your short ram setup. Also if the tubing is aluminum, wrapping it will make little difference.

Paint it a high heat black like I did mine. It used to not be able to hold on to like yours, but after the paint, it is cool to the touch now. Wrapping it in a manifold wrap after painting it may help too. Just my $.02

DISCLAIMER: Yes, I realize the exhaust manifold looks like ****. It would not yield any benifits to replace it, so

Get some insulating heat wrap. It kind of looks like an ace bandage and is most commonly used for exhasut manifolds, etc. It's pretty cheap at any auto parts store.
How fast is air moving through the piping at 8000rpms? I often doubt just how much a warm tube is able to heat up ambient moving air.
Your main concern is the warm air it is sucking in befroe it gets to the tubing.
AEM's are coated anyways and I have never noticed mine getting overly hot. The cheapo ebay intakes with bare piping do get quite hot, however.

yeah, mine has the red coating on it. however, its still gets so hot i cant hold onto it.
i think ill try it, hit vtec a few times, and then take it off and see how hot the intake is.
ill let you guys know what happens
