Ok, I've got a CX with an LS motor. My ultimate plan is a low-boost project (probably a greddy kit, no upgrades). I have no A/C or P/S, and never will.
What would be the drawbacks of having the Honda N1 pulley @ 1.8lbs instead of the factory 10lb crank pulley?

the main thin is that there is NO rubber to dampen vibrations from the crank. There is no actual prrof(as far as I know) that the N1 pulley is bad for the motor, but lots of people have used them(me included, when I was still in the B series scene) successfully(no problems) but I decided I didn't want to risk it if any of the rumors(I call them rumors because no problems have been directly linked tho thew pulley although problems have occured) happened to be true so I went back to stock....didn't notice any real difference either.

they say they're ballanced, but I do realize they're not dampened. You really didn't notice any difference, tho? That does give me cause for concern. You'd figure 8lb's of rotational mass would be huge.
since they are balanced, you should have everything balanced when using it. go have your crank/piston rods/flywheel/pressure plate balanced along with it. that way, you can ensure there are no problems with them being off balance/causing more vibration than usual.

I didn't actually weigh it, but it certainly didn't feel that big of a difference in comparison to the stock one. I think one of the other reasons I might not have noticed it to the fullest extent is that I also had an exedy lightweight flywheel installed too. Throttle response definatly improved(because I installed the flywheel too) but I don't think I really gained any whp or tq.

Yeah, it's all about "freeing up" horsepower you already have. I love the way they advertise these things, as if they contain magical horsepower boosting vtec mollecules. Accel =/= HP + Tq

I used to see JDM ITR pulleys for sale, which still had the rubber dampener, but I haven't seen one of those for sale in a long time.
210 bucks for balancing, local shop. stock parts. so yeah....lot of money. maybe its a lot of money to have a fully built race motor balanced (i hope you would do it anyways) but if you are rebuilding your motor, why not have it done? especially if you are changing the crank pully, since it IS not the original one, and IS lighter.
