Help me choose the right slick on 13x8 wheels on ITR Allmotor
First time on slicks and really want to know what works best for my setup.
running on 13x8 wheels
JDM 96 ITR, fully stripped interior
2ltr 86x87.2mm motor
ITBs
ITR 1st, 2nd ratios with OS Giken 3rd, 4th and 5th close ratios
4.6FD with OS LSD
Should i use some drag radials or slicks? 22inch Mickey thomsons, are they overkill? I mean, will the slicks slow me down since they are so much heavier?
No dyno numbers yet, but 230 to 250whp is the ballpark.
Any opinions appreciated.

where did you get that slicks are heavier? I have 22x9x13 M&H mounted on 13x7.5 Lensos--the combo weighs literally nothing!!! I believe slicks are quite a bit lighter that drag radials or regular radials...
I've never weighed slicks before. I just went on the MT site and their 22x8x13 3010 slicks weighs 14pounds only.
What will be a better choice?
22x8x13 part number 3010
or
22x8x15 part number 2019
THey both weigh the same.

my car is a 96 JDM ITR. It has smaller calipers than the later spec ITRs. If i can't squeeze them in, then i will have to fit some smaller brakes to make it work.

yes, wrinkle wall slicks weigh less than equally sized radials. my ET streets way 6-7 lbs less than my street tires on the same rim
its just that they are stickier and have more frictional losses from ground to tire contacts. so in a sense they may slow you down that way
whats your peak power at? you gotta pick the diameter tire that is gonna get you thru the 1/4 mile marker at or slightly above your peak hp rpm with that 4.6 final drive.
a way of doin that is knowing your peak hp rpm and car weight. u need to have an idea of what it will trap in the 1/4 mile based on hp/tq and race weight. once u have an idea of what mph you'll be hitting, then do the calculations on tire size vs gear ratios to see what rpm you'll be at, once you hit that mph.
thats always a fun part in setting up a car for drag racing

Ist and 2nd gears are standard ITR ratios
3rd is 1.471
4th is 1.136
5th is 0.926
FD 4.6
The motor's not ready yet, so no dyno numbers. Should be ready in a week's time.
Basically a 86x87.2mm build with BC 4 cams, SMSP header, ITBs and SM4 ecu.
Whats the diff between running 13inch or 15inch wheels? THe rolling diameter is the same, but the 13inch will have longer tyre sidewalls.
Which will be a better setup?

those are some tight ratios! you'll be shifting alot and quickly LOL
your right, a 15inch should have shorter sidewalls than the 13inch of the same diameter. i'm thinkin the 13 will hook better with the more sidewall flex, but have more rolling resistance.. tire pressures maybe different for each tire. other than that, i'm not sure which will be a better setup. generally a 13inch wheel should be lighter than a 15inch so thats some consideration. but then again, alot of the tire mass is located closer to the axle with the 15inch slick since the sidewall is shorter so it might be easer to rotate...less rotational weight..
your motor sounds very strong... so you are probly revvin it to around 9000 rpms? with those ratios and that final drive, i'd go 22inch slick and then the 13inch wheel to gain all the sidewall advantages.. cuz a 22inch slick on a 15inch wheel will have a small sidewall. i got 26's on my 16's and the sidewal is about what i'd think would be good for drag racing. shrinking 2inches on each side with a 15inch rim would leave a smaller sidewall. it just doesnt seem to me that it would hook better with that smaller sidewall.

i've worked out on the Fatboy online ratio calculator. With the gearing i have, i think the 22x8x13 M&H slicks should be perfect. 4th gear should carry me to the line with some nice trap speed. So i've ordered 2 pieces of 22x8x13s Can't wait to test them out. THanks for the help!

lol that is what i was lookin at!
yep, you should like 22's
