Default Si engine in an Lx?

Thoughts on this?

The story- My brother-in-law just totalled his 06' SI after he somehow managed to hydroplane it into multiple objects on the highway. Right now he is parting it out and we found the engine and tranny to still be in perfect condition, despite the rest of the car.

I was talking with him last night and he suprised me with an offer. He asked if I would be interested in swapping engines. Why? He said it is worth the loss he will make on the engine if I will enjoy my car more. Sounded pretty good to me, and we were all set to get someone to yank out the engine, when I started wondering how this could work. I have an AUTO LX, so how is an SI and manual tranny going to work? Will it not? Its times like this when I wish I knew how to do these things myself =/

Should be fine, make sure you pull everything, harness, ecu, cluster etc
on the older civic's to go auto to manual the hardest part was cutting under the shifter

Do it up.. and take pix

The only problem Ive ran into in converting auto to manual is the mount on the frame rail for the trans is different. The auto mount usally sits higher (at least it did on the older civics) But this shouldent be a problem if you have both cars. Just cut out that section and weld it in. You might not have to do this on the 8th gens though they might be the same. Let me know im intrested.

Hrm... yeah =P I coudlnt remove the engine from mine, let alone swap in a new one AND a new tranny. But thanks for the vote of confidence.

Do you think a mechanic would do this? Any idea on price? Thanks for the help.

keep the engine and keep your car stock!...
dont mess with your warranty...
after warranty's over u can do a swap as many people would have already swap engines with others by that time so u could have more knowledge in doing it.
Either that or trade it for a better one and you're set...
or mess with your warranty, swap engines and its all good. but if something gets f'ed up then oh boy,,,

Why would I ask him if he wants to sell it to you when I want it?
