ZC alternator on d16z6...what belt to use?
Hey guys I installed a ZC SOHC alternator onto my friends car as he had one laying around and his old one crapped out on him. We put it on and went to the local auto parts store and bought a d16z6 alternator belt, which we put on and after driving it for a few hours it split the belt in half.
To my understanding, the J-Spec and US-Spec alternator pulleys are a bit different with the groves and that's why the belt split on him.
Does anybody know from reference what belt he can use? that would be compatible with the alternator pulley and the d16z6 crank?
thanks

So here is the update.
You cannot switch the pulley from the JDM SOHC ZC Alternator onto the USDM alternator. The shaft that the pulley goes onto is different width between the US and Japanese alternators.
So the pulley wont just fit on and bolt up as the width problems with the shaft prevent that. The only way we'd get buy it is possibly opening the alternator up and switching the insides but that's not worth the work.
So we went to a local parts store and found the proper belt.
The Japanese alternator has 3 'grooves' while the US has 4 grooves.
There are 2 belts that will work, one is shorter and one is longer then the factory 305k4 belt.
300k3 -- shorter belt
320k3 ----- longer belt
I installed the 300k3 belt and the alternator sits closer to the block but it fits great and runs fine.
Issue fixed!
