Default another "my hatchback build" topic

I got to thinking that in the almost four years I've been a member of Honda-Tech, I've never posted up photos of my build. I guess it's time.

Here is a before photo, when I first bought the car. It's an 89 SI hatchback.

And here it is pretty much done, after about four years work (I work slow)

The color is the same, just different lighting.

Only difference in the pics is the rims, sunroof and window tint.... ??????????? I think I'm confused? Are the pics in the wrong order? Or did you really remove the tint/sunroof and change the wheels back to steelies with caps(or are those actually rims now that I look closer??

Good eye on the hub caps! They are hiding HX rims (idea gotten from redcivicstandards car)

The sunroof was removed by doing a roof swap.

Hey, nobody is a jackass!!

The whole object of the car was to make it so it was non-discript.

I'm getting a carbon fiber hood in a couple days and it's going to get painted white also.

The tint that was on it originally had turned to a dark purple color and had a ton of bubbles in it. As tint tends to do.

There were two reasons for getting rid of the sunroof (both valid only to me). One is that I didn't want a sunroof and wanted the challenge of doing the swap. The other reason is that I wanted the car to look as "base model" as possible. I also removed the rear window wiper. Where I draw the line is to have that black hatch lid section (between the tail lights) that std's have.

As for photos of the engine compartment, I really don't have any great ones and I guess I should shoot some. As for the interior, it just looks stock. I did recently have the seats (front and rear) re-done in a material that looks fairly original.

For those that haven't looked at my site; the engine is a B18C and it's carb certified with the state Ref.

I commend you on your work i really like it. I can't notice from the picture, but at a glance the reupholstery looks spot on. Its a good way to save a dieng seat as well instead of trashing it

no offense.. i really dont care if i look like a jackass, and you should't either. Caring what people think keeps you in a bubble of other people's thinking...but thats how you dont learn anything when you dont speak up. Thats why i stated them as questions and challanged his post to get answers.. and he respectively answered, and i honor that. As he said its a sleeper with love for the base model aspects.. i had no idea.. so i questioned. Answers make sense .. but i dont want to start a war on this mans topic, because its a beautiful car with great work.

As requested, I just snapped a couple other pictures. (the car is apart while I'm going through the brakes)

Here is the engine compartment;

This is the dash (I don't know why, but the camera added those water spots). Also notice that the doors don't have window cranks. The switches for the power windows are on the center console; (the alarm system locks the doors and rolls up the windows when activated)

Here is view of the rear section of the interior. I had all the seats re-done so that they match and it cost me $650.

dude man, you oughta think about doing something with that econo box instead of complaining about not being able to find new seat covers from the factory!

Very nice car, i love the way it's been done, and the seats look really good. The look of a clean stock hatch never goes out of style IMO, most people appreciate it that way.

OptimusPrimeX;

Yes, they are tweeters. The original owner installed them. I wish he didn't.

However they are not covering where the original window cranks would be! That's in the lower section of the door panel.

What I did is take the panel apart and use the lower section of a JDM panel. The top is from the original USDM car. It's a lot of work and you have to be real careful as to what epoxy you use to glue them back together (it's covered in my site).

I'm old and don't street race. (I do enjoy playing in the canyons however)

A while back there was a kid in the other lane that thought he was real tough. I thought about dusting him while sitting at a light, but gave it a second thought.

There was a cop sitting at the first side street we passed and I know he was keeping an eye on the kid!!
