ok i just bought a 1997 prelude sh with 152k mile seem to be going good until the check engine light came on and flashed and the car started to stumble a little so i pulled over and the car was knocking the knock is only at idle and goes away when i rev the engine. I checked the compression of the cylinders it was 150, 150, 150, 145. i need help figuring out whats wrong with it.

Well to start your compression is low. Since its pretty consistant i would guess those piston rings are worn out. I dont know the history to determine if it could have bent valves, but you should have a shop do a leak down test also.

Did you check what code the car threw out? It could be a malfuctioning knock sensor.

 

That could be the compression tester reading low, or timing off. Best thing is that all the numbers are close together. Until you pull the CEL code you wont know the problem.

 

i didnt rune the code i unplugged the batterie and it reset and hasnt came back on, the knock sensor was replaced by previous owner. thanks for the help

 

might wanna do some of the regular maintence work such as valve adjustment, oil change, tranny fluid change, radiator fluid change, cap, rotor, plugs, ect.
