Default Thoughts on my POS 88 rex. 56k warning

Alright, well I picked this car up a while ago and registered for the forum just to look over things and get tips and whatnot. Just to let eveyone know, I am not trying to make this car a drag car, nor am I trying to make it a show car. I bought it for the sole purpose of being a fun first car and DD. I know it is in HORRIBLE shape, I have heard this from every other forum I have been on, so you don't need to remind me :D.

on to the pics of when i FIRST got it.

^^There it is... I think it has seen better days.

^^Remember, this is how I got it, all this retarded **** came on with it.

^^Battery located to the hatch, got an extra with it for some reason. And one of the 3 matching wheels that I have.... anyone know where the hell they are from and where I may get 1 more?

^^Started sanding... not really knowing what the hell I was doing... Just thought sanding it was a good idea, idk.

^^Doesn't seem too... safe (or legal).

^^Note all of the bondo and "repaint" because he tried to shave all the moldings and then just stopped and decided to sell the car or somethin.

That's how it sat for about 2 months, since I didn't seem to have the time or motivation to work on it. Then last week I started finding time to get things done... which brings me to the next batch. Picture sizes vary because I was using different camera phones..

^^Better than **** bondo, I guess.

[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/-A7X-/noname4.jpg[/IMGl]

^^Ready for paint haha.

Now that is all... I have done the painting which probably looks like **** to everyone else, but at least it is better than what it did look like... Now I need to purchase a hood, 2 fenders, plate to cover ECU, head lights, any sort of interior body panel I will buy(preferably panels in the hatch) and steering wheel(send me a PM if ou need any of these gone )

Any ideas to do after that? Just wondering what could make it look more presentable.

And again, I know... POS, but it's my first car and I'm attached to it.

alright so i havent really updated on HT with what has been done, and i have some time to kill since school is over. here goes! :

^^ this is when i put the fenders from my brother's 1990 civic hatch on, also the corner lenses. the bumper doesnt quite fit but i should be picking up a civic bumper shortly.

^^ fits pretty well, the missing part is from where the side skirts were fiberglassed onto the fender on the civic. that is fixed.

^^ that is the before of the bent frame that was caused by a small accident by the previous owner.

^^ with the front frame off of the civic, straight again! so pretty much the whole front end of my car will be from a civic, but not many people will even realize it when looking at it quickly.

^^ since my interior was pretty much clean minus the torn seats, i picked up these 90-91 Si seats for a good price. now the interior looks muuuch better, at least i think so.

^^ after washing it down after painting the fenders and such.

^^ painted the valve cover and intake cover. i was getting sick of the teal blue. yeah, i forgot a part... i know lol.

and thats everything that i have pictures of, i will update more once i have the new wheels/tires and the from bumper. let me know what you guys think. and also, this is on a budget for now so keep that in mind

get all the bondo you can out of there and replace your moldings. It will look a lot better that way!

Yeah I am loving working with it... I know that the sides look lumpy because the bondo isn't exactly perfect, which I found out after I painted it.. But it was a cheap spray sooo I can always go over it. I'm not looking to make it much of a powerfull car since I can't do much with the Dual Point Fuel Injection. If I wanted to make any major changes to it, that would have to be upgraded but I heard that it is a TON of wiring and I'm not looking into jumping into a project that will cause it to.. not run. Anything I can do to upgrade without having to upgrade FI?

And the battery is in a box now, I just didn't upload the pic. I am going to work on it again tomorrow and snap other pictures. If you would like, you can tell me what to work on and what points to focus on. And yeah, the engine runs like it's mint. Nothing wrong but a lot of miles... but hey, it's a Honda. Thanks for the feedback guys! Any links to FS stuff that I have mentioned is appreciated also

Just looked up the wheels.. http://www.wheelcollision.com/wccpix/63634used.JPG

83-84 Prelude wheels. I want one more

^ok if you're going to keep that thing in the trunk lets do it right so you dont have a fire..the wire he used looks like normal size wire, but when you have it that long you need some thick *** wire,,me personally i use 0 guage wire all the time no matter what car (you can get away with 2 gauge)..then i add an inline fuse at the firewall,,then from there into a "car audio" distribution block,,then run the wires to the starter/fuse box..

and with converting to mpfi ,,,its not a ton of wiring actually,,,,its pretty simple..all your doing in real is adding and swapping around a couple of wires..for me the hardest part was actually getting the parts for the right price..if you follow these directions you shall have no issues at all http://fourthgenhatch.net/mpfi.html there really is nothing else you can do without upgrading to mpfi 1st,,its just a better platform no matter what anyone tells you or does..you could have header, intake, exhaust, clutch, ported head, and afc for managament and its all a waste with dpfi

Yeah I know exactly what you mean Speaker. Thanks for the link. I will look into it, since i'ts all I can do ATM. I know that all those things would be a waste on dpfi, thats why i dont have plans on doing them unless i have mp.

Usually...but thats when you find a chick that digs cars like my wife! (does'nt work on them herself, but appreciates the outcome when they are done. She occasionaly helps me when shes got nothing going on! Currently, shes cleaning the interior as its nearing completion...) They're out there, and worth the effort to find! ...if your looking that is.

Glad you got a Honda...you got a big project for your 1st car there. Dont get discouraged. Your rattle can primer job really should be stripped but your a kid and on a budget I can understand that we have all been there so it will do for now. Here was I would do.

Find a $500 beater to drive while you have time so you have more time to properly work on your crx.Its a lot easier to work on a car if its not your dd.

1.Bodywork 1st is what I would do. Since you car appears to have been painted a few times and has had some shoddy body work...I would strip it down and get rid of all that "bondo"...judgin by the color of the filler it was probably "bondo" brand filler....get all that crap off...get some better quality stuff. Do your body work.

2.Primer the car with a real spray gun and catalized primer(non rattle can) This should get you buy for a while.

3.Fix battery cables....MPFI swap is good,ZC if you can swing it or go all out..work a lil o/t save $ and get a b swap

Your car is there and it runs right now so thats a good thing...Get that bodywork looking decent would be my 1st priority

yeah i know what you mean loose, that was what i was trying to do. i know that my dad has a spray gun, but im not sure where. i dont think that the rattle can looks too bad, but it looks better then before for sure. and since it's my first car, i just want to work on this and drive it, i dont wanna get another shitty car to drive cause i'd just want to work on that too lol. im not in a rush to get it done either, i dont live far from work or school so i'm fine there. and the battery is fixed, and in a box now. first thing is making it look presentable.. then i will feel as if i have accomplished something. and i cant really work over time lol, but i get paid in cash every night i work since it's a restaurant, so i can basically keep puting money into it dayly if i needed to.

hey man heard you are going mpfi. and grat progress with the crx. i have a full mpfi swap for sale. i have a d15b7 intake mani(complete) with a brand new anly used for under 200 miles distributor si, pm6 ecu, complete b16 into a crx dpfi to mpfi converted harness with vtec plugs. (engine harness only) so the only thing you would need is to buy some 14 guage wire from your local ace hardware and wire it up with the many links. and guys tell him how much 150 for everything is a deal. well give me a pm if you are interested and good luck with the crx.
