Default type R tranny ?

who is running this tranny? I have this tranny in my turboed ls, and when i raced it last, on stock 15? inch wheels with 20psi of air I was having to shift into 5th in the 1/4. Therefore that slowed my time down alot. The rev limiter is still set at stock. Anyone else with a b18b1 or non vtec using this tranny? What do you have to say about this? tomorrow im going to the track, im going to try my 17's with low pros and see if the taller tire will let me stay in 4th....

well the jdm type r has the 4.7 final drive that might have something to do with why youd have to shift to 5th.

The 17's will probably give you alot less traction and slow the times down even more

There's no doubt the 17's will hurt. Heavier wheel, plus the smaller, stiffer tires. No way the car will have good traction in low gears. You shift so much because it is 4.78 final drive tranny. It's made to shift.

You need a LS trans if you are going to use stock revlimiter. Also could use a GSR. I wonder what a LS with 4.78fd would be like?

so far my best time was on my old tranny (ls) but those gears felt too long. Didnt know that the gears in this tranny were going to be so low but they sure are... Maybe someone would trade me for a gsr trans. I dont like being at 4700rpm's at 80 on the highway. The rev limiter will be raised tho. I just figured lower gears would really help the car get up and go, and when I shift, it would go back down to its power band and high enough for the turbo to spool right away. But the only time I ran with this new tranny my girlfriend was with me...not that she's more then 120lbs, but weight matters.

IMO get a gsr tranny and raise you limiter up a bit... i have a friend that had a jdm itr tranny(4.78 FD) and banged his limiter at 9.7k rpm at the traps in 4th
