Default tranny problems, pops out of 3rd and clicking... :(

title sums it up.

1. in 3rd and only in 3rd, it just pops out of gear whenever it feels like it, only when car is in motion obviously.

2. in any gear, i can take car out of gear without pressing clutch, but only when im accelerating and let off the gas, soon as i let it off i can take it out of gear, not really at any other times.

3. 3rd gear grind most of the time, only when going into gear.

4. reverse grind if im moving forward even the TINIEST bit.

5. constant clicking sound at all times when in motion, its always present but can hear it the most when accelerating. not really all that loud but its a problem.

6. clutch slippage

when i swapped motor out (H23->H23), i didnt have enough for a new clutch so i didnt do it at the time, although it couldve used one. will be doing that soon.

tranny is original H23 tranny.

1) the syncro is worn out, more specifically the little lip on the retaining clip if i remeber correctly (im regurgitating this info, i haven't found this out for myself, so excuse any memory problems)

2)that is completely normal, my trans is in good shape and i can do that too....dont make a habit of it....

3)grind, again, would be due to the bad syncro....

4) that is normal, reverse is not syncronized, therefore if you are not completely stopped, its gonna grind.....

5) that is hard to diagnose, but it could be one of many things including bad countershaft bearings, bad differential bearings, bad axles, or bad wheel bearings....

6) get a new clutch in there when you take it off to fix this crap

good luck

I would imagine that's because Honda doesn't wanna make it easy for some one to put it in reverse while going 60-80 on the highway. LOL

Now I can see why you want to "re-invent" yourself, but comming out of the closet is not best suited on H-T.

yea i figured it was for "safety", but you know how we all shift it into either forward or reverse gear when we're still going the other direction, even if at .00001 mph

so, synchros being bad, is that something i can take it to the shop and not get raped over, or am i better off swapping trannys?

I'd like to know too, because I actually like my '93s tranny. Don't know where all the H tranny hate is comming from, but I wanna refresh mine.

gear-speed.com can get you carbon coated syncros that will be bulletproof and last forever.....

it would probably cost like 500 bucks to do a full syncro job.... **** i dont know i dont use car shops.....check out some kinda chain store or something.....aamco or something....
