Default FAQ: Honda engine codes

For anyone who does not know, your chassis code is IN YOUR VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The fourth, fifth and sixth digits of your VIN are your chassis code. Your chassis code DOES NOT CHANGE no matter what engine you put in your car or what you do to your car. You can do a full Type R conversion on your '96 CX hatch and it's still going to be an EJ6 because the VIN does not change.

<FONT COLOR="red">FULL LIST OF CHASSIS / ENGINE CODES</FONT> (It's kept updated, thanks to NOFX.)

---ORIGINAL POST---

Note: Engines are noted as VTEC or otherwise, where applicable.

A list of engine codes out of Hondas and Acuras. Any motor you want, you can find what it came out of here, so you can look for that car for the motor.

Please feel free to add to this if it is a real Honda or Acura motor.

Only the D17A6 had VTEC-E.

Wait, so the D17A2 has full SOHC VTEC? In the faq some say it's vtec e and no one gives a solid answer on this. It would be cool if it did have full SOHC VTEC, although that doesn't change the fact it's still only 100whp.

It has a full SOHC VTEC II. The only D17 motor that has VTEC-E, is the D17A6 found in the HX.

And you are right about the WHP, although I think it is a LITTLE bit higher than 100. Maybe 110 or so. But I don't know.

I don't know, I've never seen a valve cover that's said VTEC-E. Every vtec valve cover I have seen has just said VTEC. Not that it really matters.

Yeah the dyno sheet I saw was from an LX. Hopefully we have 110whp. Again it doesn't really matter considering I can drive 4500-5500 rpms and be falling behind a C5 driving normally.
