Default Past the redline

Long story short, my 93 accord happened to go way past the redline. I'm really nervious that something got horriabally mest up. I just read this article about a guy why took his s2000 over the redline and totally mest up the head and all the valves. Currently the car is running same as before, no odd noises/oil leaks. I think I have made it out ok. Is there anything I can look for that would indicate any damage done. It got up to, I believe, right about 8000 but maybe lower as soon as I saw it rev that high I shoved in the clutch. It gave me such a sick feeling to watch that poor old motor be tortured like that.

Since you touched the redline, all of the magical elves inside your engine are dead. When your tach hit the red, your motor instantly turned red hot and burned any trace of life that was left inside.

The red is there for a reason... think of the elves...

It is probably fine. You could do a leakdown test to make sure no valves got hurt but honestly if it is running like it was before then I would not worry about it.

Main thing you'd be worried about is the valves, high RPMs can cause havok on stock valves. I've personaly done somthing similar in my car, I took it from 1st (35MPH) to 2nd, then to 3rd (70MPH) to what was suppose to be 4th (100MPH), but was really 2nd again, my tach jumped off the meter, the second I saw it jump I slammed the clutch in and prayed my engine was ok. About 8k miles later it still runs like a champ. Although I've got a JDM H22A, and they don't build 'em nearly as well in the US as they do in Japan.

Chances are your engine is fine, just keep doing the routine maintenance that you should be doing. If you did damage the engine you wont notice it untill it's too late. Valves can get bent so slightly that you never notice untill one day your engine starts to get quirky.

Thanks Dave and Accord. That is good to hear it was just not a good feeling. I think it will be fine. But never again will that happen. I just need to baby that car now, maybe get her some fresh oil.

chances are you're fine, although it's not a good idea to rev that high, The F motors are incredibly durable. I've heard numerous accounts of guys revvin past redline in their accords with no problems. It's a dumb Idea though, the f22's powerband dies after 5500 rpms
