Default probably a stupid question...

When I was checking my air filter (the one that is oval shaped when I open the big cap) I noticed that there is a plastic pipe that comes out of the left of the air intake system. The pipe doesn't look like it has any filter on it. Is it supposed to just take the air with out any filter, it just doesn't look right.

thanks alot everybody,
josh

Well if it's unmodified you're probably seeing a resonator? It's really hard to know what you're talking about from it's description

I think he's talking about a plastic pipe that has a bent in it thats right in front of the stock air filter box, you can pretty much just pull up on it and it will come out. The pipe is there just to bring some extra air into the engine to help keep the temperature down.

here is a pic, talking about the circled part correct?

More detail such as year would help, but if it is Fuel Injected I would say part of the resonator.

that's the inlet of the intake, every oxygen the engine needs is draws from there, it doesnt cool anything, it's the air inlet.

but is that what he's asking for? maybe he's asking for one of the black ***** like resonator arm.

it's actually pretty good size, the one echo has was little bigger than the thumb, you can stall/stop the engine by pluggin your thumb

[inlet:air horn]-->[resonator: noise dampering]--->[airbox: filter]--->[throttle body/engine air inlet]

I agree with iam7, if it has a hole in it then that is where the air comes from. I was thinking of a resonator arm which it may also be if it doesn't have a hole.

Oval shaped filter? I'd agree with MooGoCow3 that it sounds like a 3rd gen carb'd motor.
